hophead75 (1945), Boonton, New Jersey, USA Mar 12, 2007 12 oz bottle. dark amber with alot of ruby highlights. Aroma is caramel and molasses with metallic as well as stale malt and cooked corn. Taste is about the same, thin bodied and stale, drain pour. mstockton (186), Rochester, Michigan, USA Feb 17, 2007 Like the "light" at MCsorley’s in NYC, it’s half head off the tap. Smooth and not too cold. Easy drinking...I liked it, but loved more out of thirst than fine beer quality. If you’re enar there, it’s worth the trip. The beer goes down nicely. rman18 (200), South Amboy, New Jersey, USA Feb 6, 2007 Not too bad... Fresh aroma, nice dark appearance with a small head.
The flavor is just OK, nothing special. This beer is worth a shot, but certainly not a favorite.
If you are a casual beer drinker and you like Guiness you’ll love this beer. Retorp (2154), Tampa, Florida, USA Jan 21, 2007 12 oz bottle from Joe Canal’s in West Deptford, NJ. The aroma is pretty sweet with mild molasses notes and abundant sweet malt as well as a bit of stale adjunct laden lager aroma. The beer pours a ruddy brown, but it does settle black, barely. The head is about a finger thick and tan, but immediately fades to a thin tan slick of a head.

Tastes very pale lager-like with some artifical sweetner and that stale warm cheap lager taste I have never been able to compare to anything else. It’s pretty bad tasting. It’s very thin and it leaves a stale unclean aftertaste. Unless you just want to try a new beer, save your money and buy Yuengling Black & Tan. surf1284 (91), USA Nov 28, 2006 Nothing special. Dark, with no head, this is what stood out to me. I need to get more stouts under my belt though. GregClow (2493), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 13, 2006 Draught at McSorley’s, NYC. OK, I’ll admit it - I didn’t take any notes while I was drinking this. McSorley’s isn’t the kind of place where you sniff your beer, and swish it around, and write down your thoughts. You just get two mugs, you pound them back, you get two more, and so on... So as with the Ale (or as they called it at the pub, "Light"), I’m just putting the numbers right in the middle, because after leaning on the beat-up bar and standing on the sawdust-strewn floor at McSorley’s, I’ve realized that sometimes the numbers just don’t matter that much, it’s the experience that’s important. ROGUE (621), Newark, Delaware, USA Sep 11, 2006 Let me start by saying black and tans should not come pre mixed in a bottle (it is just not proper) This beer was lacking in most things a B-T should be. No head, no aroma, and a weak flavor. Walt (2289), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jul 31, 2006 Pour is blackish brown with a thick tan head...butter and garbage aroma...horrible...offensive.
