drewcifer85710 (158), Youngstown, Ohio, USA Jun 22, 2003 What the hell? Why is this rated as a stout? I seem to recall even the side of the bottle saying something to the effect of "stout-style lager". That was enough for me. Very thin and not much taste at all. Jesus, these things aren't cool. I'd have no problem with Pabst if they'd quit pissing around and stick to making Pabst. The market for cheap swill won't diminish, and you can't beat that PBR can anyway.. I wish I could rate this a negative, not because it's any worse than Bud Ice Light, but because the good folks at Pabst would be so inconsiderate as to create this thing and have the nerve to sell it to the public as a "Black and Tan". jgb9348 (2492), Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA Jun 5, 2003 Dark amber colour not very opaque, but for this style it looks acceptable. The head is very large-bubbled slight tan coloured and fades quickly. The smell is of a typical lager and slightly sweet (as more of a macro-brew smell). The taste is medium-bodied but completely absent in flavour. You get a mouthful to deal with, but absolutlely no taste. This was a new addition to my local beer store, and I had to pick up, just because it was new, and i've had just about everything else, but I will not try any other beers from this Brewery just based on this beer. Needless to say, I look up, and see Pabst....what a shocker! This one isn't good, try another black and tan, or MAKE YOUR OWN! Cobra (1060), In a van, down by the river, Maryland, USA May 2, 2003 I've had this beer on tap at the Maryland Renaissance Festival for the last 5 or 6 years running. Although it comes in a plastic
cup, it is still a good beer in my book. Pours out a dark brown color, with a tan colored head. The head doesn't last long
though. Sweet malt aroma up front, with a touch of grainy aroma also. Further analysis reveals a hoppy background, with a
fruity aroma as well. Tastes as good as it looks. Plenty of sweet maltiness, nice and smooth up front, and going down. It has a
pleasent aftertaste, sort of a molasses flavor happening here. Goes great with raw oysters on the half shell. A good example of
a black and tan, in my book. crazyvin (1246), New York, USA Mar 7, 2003 although the beer seems watered down it still has the classic taste of a real black and tan. beastdog75 (337), Brick, New Jersey, USA Feb 13, 2003 A little bit on the watery side, but overall a decent black & tan. Has a fruity sweetness to it. Yankovitch333 (612), Chesapeake City, Maryland, USA Feb 11, 2003 For a Pabst beer it's not bad. It has a nice dark ruby red color. Small head that is light tan and very little retention. Aroma is slighty sweet and malty. Flavor is slighly roasted and sweet. Finish is watery. For a black and tan there's way too much carbonation and not enough flavor. Stick to Yuengling or Saranac B&T. But as far as Pabst swill this beats the rest. Dickinsonbeer (3434), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Jan 18, 2003 Slight head on top of a brown mostly thin body. Aroma and flavors are average, with nothing really standing out. Too watered down and slight mettalic flavors. Not bad but far from good. Darkover (1308), Columbus, Ohio, USA Dec 26, 2002 Updated: Jan 21, 2004Dark ruby color and a small head. Very faint malt aroma. Flavor is sweet/tart. Sour finish. Somewhat too much carbonation.
