Dark ruby color and a small head. Very faint malt aroma. Flavor is sweet/tart. Sour finish. Somewhat too much carbonation.

I've had this beer on tap at the Maryland Renaissance Festival for the last 5 or 6 years running. Although it comes in a plastic cup, it is still a good beer in my book. Pours out a dark brown color, with a tan colored head. The head doesn't last long though. Sweet malt aroma up front, with a touch of grainy aroma also. Further analysis reveals a hoppy background, with a fruity aroma as well. Tastes as good as it looks. Plenty of sweet maltiness, nice and smooth up front, and going down. It has a pleasent aftertaste, sort of a molasses flavor happening here. Goes great with raw oysters on the half shell. A good example of a black and tan, in my book.

Apparently black color, small off white head. Lactose, vanilla and a little chocolate in the nose. Sweet smooth body, albeit watered down. Light chocolate and roast notes peek their head in towards the end.

a bit of spice anise pepper and licorice though the flavor is too weak. dark brown and flavor of malt with barely anything else it is a touch sweet though just sugary. finish is of root and not bad as well as appropriately bitter but again too weak. good when first sipped it lessens in interest as you continue. light and almost like a cola but still acceptable as i suppose good for winter.

12/15/2007: McSorley’s Black and Tan has a clear, deep mahogany color with ruby highlights and is topped by a thin and frothy tan-colored head. The aroma contains dark European malts, some slight fruit notes, and a hint of butterscotch. This beer is slightly dry and has a light molasses and chocolate flavor. Over all it goes down smoothly and is not bad.

12 fl. oz. bottle (85% stout, 15% lager). Rating #77 for this beer.

12 oz. bottle. Poured dark brown with a heavily carbonated tan head. Pleasant aroma of sweet roasted malt. Flavor is a bit disappointing. Somewhat sweet with barely a hint of hops. Thin, almost watery mouthfeel. Lots of better options out there.

My dad buys this by the case. I still do not understand why. It's ok, but definately not what I would consider a stout.

Bottle - aroma was actually fairly malty and sweet smelling. It looked almost like a dark amber or maybe a maibock. Quite drinkable, but difficult to rate because it is just an odd mixture rather than an actual style. Not too much flavor, but a fairly nice malty, sweet finish. Confusing.
