Commercial Description:
At McSorley’s ale is well. McSorley’s Irish Pale Ale is from the old house at home. Established in 1854 in NYC and brewed by McSorley’s Brewery in Wilks-Barre, PA. Brewed in the tradition of the historic walls of McSorley’s Old Ale House. It took 116 years, the pressure of public opinion and ultimately the authority of a court order for McSorley’s to surrender. By the mid 1970s, McSorley’s allowed woman inside the bar at 15 E. 7th St for the very first time. Ah, but the owners did not completely forgo tradition, women would wait until 1986 to get their own restroom.

Source: 12 oz bottle from Mount Juliet Beer Company.
Glass: Kona 10 oz Pilsener.
Appearance: Medium amber pour with a one finger off white head.
Aroma: Very clean with a faint hint of flowers.
Flavor: Extremely clean flavor, with subtle fruit coming through.
Palate: Medium/light body with solid carbonation.
Overall: Not a bad beer. I was expecting something much worse, but this was a pleasant surprise. Wouldn’t buy a whole sixer of it, but not a drain pour.

I’ve been to the pub in Manhattan and remember that the only drink choices were the light or the dark (served two mugs at a time) and if you didn’t keep drinking they’d kick you out. Not exactly sure which of the two this would’ve been. Anyway... rating a 12oz bottle from Total Wine and More in Atlanta. Copper pour with a thin off-white head that leaves a ring. Grain and caramel malt aroma. Sweet toffee and butter taste. Metallic quality with a light floral bitterness. I think two at a time and non-stop probably made my memory of this far better than reality.

Bottle: The aroma is moderately sweet with caramel, diacetyl, and a mild grassiness. It pours a transparent amber with a small off-white head that diminishes quickly. It almost looks still after a few minutes if not for a few tiny bubbles around the edges of the glass. The flavor starts with some light caramel. The finish is lightly fruity and sweet with a hint of diacetyl and some mild grassy bitterness. Diacetyl increases significantly as it warms. Light bodied and thin with moderate carbonation.

I’m pretty McSorry I even picked this up to begin with. Brewed down at Miller in Milwaukee? I respect the heritage, but not allowing women to come into the bar until the 70’s? Yikes. Hopefully the crappy taste of this beer confirmed their heterosexuality. All in all, pretty close to crap. I’m sure the recipe they’re mass producing at Miller tastes nothing like the original anyway. Clear orange colour, large frothy head. The aroma is peaty, and the taste literally hurts my stomach. I sure as hell hope I got a bad bottle.

This wasn’t bad, and I think many are rating against the big brewery concept. Poured from the bottle to a orange-amber color, a thin off white head that dissipated quickly and little lacing. Aroma was pretty muted, but what was there was spicy fruit. Mouthfeel was tingly and medium bodied, with a taste of spices and slight fruited hops. Finish pleasant and full. Would make a good session beer.

pours a medium caramel/ruby color with a thin light tan head. smells like a saranac beer...super malty and caramely with a faint grassiness. flavor has loads of caramel, straw, and mild earthy hops. mouthfeel is very thin and light with a malty finish that lingers too long! probably will never drink this again!

12oz bottle. Pours a clear amber color with an off white head that lasted a while and left good lacing. Aroma of caramel malt, faint grassy hops and grains. A nice caramel sweetness up front, with a slight hop bitterness. Creamy mouthfeel with moderate carbonation.

Draft, however, it was drawn from a Heineken tap marker. The bartender assured me it was Mcsorley’s Irish PA. Mushroom and yeast nose ringed with cherries. Clear rust colored with a thick off-white head, good lace. It tastes quite tart of barley malt and cherries. Soapy finish of grass and cherries. Drinkable and flavorful. No complaints.
