Aroma of fruit (cherry, raspberry), wine combined with a strong malt aroma (coffee, etc). Quite subtle and complex aroma. Moderately sweet, lightly bitter flavour, again somewhat winey. Bit out of balance. Flavour can’t keep up with the aroma.

The pour was absolutely explosive - about 10 times as much foam as actual beer. Once the head settles down, though, it’s a pretty standard looking porter. Nose has a good coffee note, with a little bit of chocolate behind. Flavor is very much the same - again dominated by the coffee, and some clean chocolaty malt notes alongside. Smooth palate. A pretty standard dark coffee beer, but it’s nicely assembled. Love the packaging, too - it gets a 5 for Appearance almost just because of that. spencerberus (5), San Diego, California, USA does not count | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 15, 2009 Dark brown with a thick, small brownish head that dissipates quickly and leaves substantial lacing. Smells richly of coffee grounds and tastes as much too, frothy mouthfeel and light on carbonation, with a bitter yet smooth finish that lingers without ever being overbearing.
For those who enjoy coffee, especially those who take it black, as there is definitely no cream here. mastabass666 (96), California, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Dec 13, 2009 aroma and flavor were almost exclusively coffee, with not much elsed going on. palate was on the thin side for a porter. a fuller mouthfeel would really improve this. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 12, 2009 This is pure coffee, and the new 11.2 ounces is enough even for two of us. As far as the style, as far as a coffee beer, this hits the mark. Not something I am crazy about, coffee in the aroma, the colour. A good amount of head. Creamy mouthfeel, but it does reach a level of astringncy at the end. Capa (995), Yokosuka, Japan
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 5, 2009 Medium brown with a tan head. Coffee, light roasted malts, cocoa powder, in the aroma. Very nice, actually. Medium body. The flavor is a bit off. If this beer tasted like it smells it would be a much better brew. Burnt coffee, some cocoa, and a bit of roasted malt. It’s just sorta there. beerguy101 (3971), Newark, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 3, 2009 Sampled on 11/13/2009. This porter pours a medium brown color from a 330ml bottle. Small sized, quickly diminishing, white foamy head. The aroma is coffee, some chocolate and some roasted malts. Medium bodied porter. The malts are roasty, coffee and chocolate. Touch of vanilla. The hops are earthy. A nice mild coffee flavor. Not overwhelming in its intensity. Perhaps sitting in the fridge for a couple years mellowed this one some. A very nice, very drinkable beer. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter. Aquilo (281), California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 2, 2009 This comes in a very handsome bottle, I love it already! Pours dark brown, not as dark as I’m used to, with a thin head. Very fragrant, with a strong presence of coffee grounds, and an underlying sweetness of toffee. They need to learn how to brew better coffee at Meantime brewery. Still, I think the toffee aroma makes up for the bad coffee. The flavor, however, is a bit thin. Mostly watery, and then a strong coffee aftertaste. Very fizzy on the palate. Not my idea of a tasty porter. Sorry. tnkw01 (214), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 1, 2009 Bottle. This beer has a distinct, strong coffee taste and aroma. Pours deep and dark with a little brown head that leaves brownish white rings of lace. If one is a coffee lover, this is the beer for you.
