| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Nov 21, 2009 My bottle is different the one on the picture. Same brewery though. Best before 17th December 2010. Poured from a 500ml bottle bought from Sainsburry’s (whilst I could find it) into a Budvar tankered glass.
No smoke from the bottle. Pours a thick red/brown colour. Lovely red texture. Like Newcastle Brown Ale x300%. Really nice touch. The head is creamy and raised but simmers down to a lght creamy head similar to Budvar Dark funilly enough.
Aroma is good, dark chocolate roasted malts, chocolate, burnt toast and biscuits. Leather, vanilla and raisen texture. A very nice winter warmer. I recommend. I’d love to have this at the brewery. This is a fantastic beer by one of my favourite domestic breweries. renffisch (520), london, Greater London, England

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 12, 2009 Tasted from 500ml bottle into a pint glass. An opaque black beer with a dark red hue and a moderate beige head. Nose of burnt coffee, bitter dark chocolate, warm chestnuts, dark fruits and toffee. Nice dark roasted malts on the palate with a smoky bitter dark chocolate finish. Medium bodied without the richness of many other stouts. Tastes more reminiscent of a schwarzbier to me but still nice. bobinlondon (842), Harrow, Greater London, England

| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Aug 31, 2009 Smells of muddy, murky barley, not a crisp smell and not something I find very appealing. looks all right, a little light coloured for a stout and no real head. Taste is all right, a little watery as far as stouts go, with a dark roasted barley flavour. Very simple. Rather weak, in my opinion, for this style of beer.
