Ernest (4481), Boulder, Colorado, USA Apr 22, 2006 July 2003 bottling. No head (still). Body is hazy light yellow. Aroma is notes of honey, flowers, alcohol (some isopropyl). Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly to moderately acidic. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic. Medium to full body, watery/syrupy texture, flat carbonation, lightly astringent, lightly to moderately alcoholic. Higher alcohol is a little problematic for the aroma, but then this bottling is one of the first of Mark’s bottled meads, so it’s understandable. The flowery honey aroma is quite strong, and the taste is quite clean, so it’s still quite enjoyable...it’s just that the isopropyl-ish note in the nose gives one caution about drinking too much. That his first mead is better than most meadery’s products is quite telling on just how far above the bar Mark’s current products are.
