Jun 29, 2009 Bouquet is very basic. Typical coffee, chocolate, and roasted notes. Taste is again very ordinary. Body is just a bit thin. Absolutely not a bad attempt but definitely not exceptional. Nothing pops about this porter. I want my porters to be bold not stunted.

Jun 14, 2009 Tried this brew in a bottle and on tap as a sample in Mehana’s tasting room at the brewery. Mehana makes no bones about trying to appeal to the local masses in Hawaii. They want their lineup to be the local option to the Bud/Coors crowd. Crow Porter is very drinkable and IMO, the best brew in their lineup. While there is nothing bad about this light, entry level porter, there’s nothing special either. Nevertheless, if in Hilo, give’m a try.

Jun 10, 2009 I enjoyed this beer after my trip to the brewery in Hilo. It had a dark color with a modest tan head that had slight retention and cling. The beer had a muted roasty malt aroma with some coffee and caramel notes, and a bit of grainy hops too. It had a lightly sweet mild coffee flavor with some bitter grainyness as well. A fairly smooth body with low carbonation and a thin mouthfeel. Decent beer, but nothing too memorable.

Mar 3, 2009 Probably the best from Mehana, but nothing special in my opinion. Not many people have had this so I say if you see it, give it a try.

Jan 1, 2009 Bottle. Pours black with a small thick light tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, roasted nuts, and coffee. Flavor of light roasted malt and a light coffee presence. Not bad and it has some body too. Decent porter.

Jan 1, 2009 Bottle. Didnt realize I was going to be just the second one to rate this. Sweet. Anyway, aroma of roasted malts, some semi-bitter coffee. Flavor expands on the coffee aspect, though is one dimensional. A bit thin for a porter. Not bad.
