Commercial Description:
Mauna Kea is an American Pale Ale. The malts and hops are from the Northwest. This premium ale is dry-hopped for a minimum of 25 days. Actual whole hops are used to give the beer a touch of floral aroma and citrus flavor. Medium copper in color, with a superbly well-balanced hop flavor, it goes well with chicken, pasta, and red meat dishes. It is named for the most majestic mountain on the island.

On tap at brewery. Copper/orange, with a decent sized foamy white head. Very sweet aroma, Notes of brown sugar. A bit of a citrus hop bite at the end. On the sweeter end of the pale ale spectrum, but tasty.

Bottle from Ron. Oranges, pineapple and pine in nose. Hazy orange and thick white head. Syrupy palate, nice mouthfeel a bit gritty too. The pineapple comes through again. I found this one interesting and good. Not as malty as some.

Haleiwa, Hi. - Foodland grocery store - 12 oz bottle. Light copper pour, nice white head that sticks around a while. Very slight spruce aroma with some subtle floral hints. Nice subtle bitterness with a light citrus bent to it. Some nuttiness and a hint of mint. Mouthfeel is slightly sticky. Overall, decent.

Pours clear, golden-amber, with a medium beige head, good lasting lacing. Strong floral aroma, with grapefruit, pineapple, yeast and toffee notes. Medium body, sharp and very dry. Big malt flavor of biscuit, pineapple, and caramel, with some mild pine and earthy hop notes. Medium bitter finish. Well balanced.

Attractive light copper with thin head that hangs around. Really good fresh aroma consisting of subtle citrus and a decent ammount of medium bitter hops standout. Zippy in the mouth. First sip actually made my mouth water..odd..
