Roasty malt aroma with a hint of chocolate. Taste is same with well rounded malts. Mouthfeel is kinda slippery, and works well with the carbonation. $3/bomber grimreeser (797), Minnesota, USA

I have a hard time calling it a black and tan, but a good choice for experiencing the Mendocino brewing technique. holdenn (1443), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 13, 2006 Bomber pours black with a tall head. Fairly light malt aroma of barley roast and a little chocolate. Light bodied with sweet molasses, roasted, bitter, and coffee flavors. Simple flavors very one dimensional, its leaving me wanting more, some complexity, something for me to think about. Finishes flat and dry. nimbleprop (895), SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 3, 2006 Poured a watery black from the bomber with a big, foamy, lacing, tan head. Not thick enough to be a stout. Interesting aroma that mixes roasted malts and slight hops. Initial flavor is a sweet malt and also fruity, like plums. Finish is smooth and again has a mixed flavor, coffee and bitterness of hops. This was drinkable but I expect more complexity. Bartzilla (443), San Diego, California, USA

Easy drinking. Smells great and goes down smooth. Definitely getting some roasted coffee flavors that disappear quickly. Doesn’t leave a whole lot on the palate, but that’s not always a bad thing. Very drinkable, albeit a little average tasting. Decided to try it because when I go to Ballast Point for growlers fills, I occasionally get their "Black Eye" which is half Black Marlin Porter and half Big Eye IPA.
