Very faint and light aroma. What I can find in it is roasty and malty with some chocolate as well. Smooth and roasty taste with a nice and smooth chocolate and malt middle. The end is very smooth and malty with a slight hint of apple skins and alcohol. Very warming and very creamy. I wonder what’s the percentage of each of the two beers in there. Mostly I taste the stout. Not much of the Select Ale. I would probably classify this one as a stout or a porter. RichJ7 (1175), Cullman, Alabama, USA

Roasted malt in the nose, bit of coffee. I definitely got the stout characteristics, but I couldn’t seem to find the Eye of the Hawk in this beer, except as a diluting agent. It was good, flavorful. I think, though, I would’ve rather had one or the other. crizay (1050), Brook Park (was Tampa,FL), Ohio, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 4, 2006 That’s right. I’ve been properly pummelled by Black Eye ale. Smooth and roasty black malts mix with English strong ale to deliver a one-two punch. The oily texure sticks to the throat an ensures a long malty aftertaste. Sporting a thick tan head and charred malty finish, Black Eye is a winner. Sort of like a Dunkel on steriods.
