| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 12, 2006 Very dark brown, almost black with a tan head. The aroma is fruity malts and light touches of chocolate. Intresting blend, both beers are able to be picked out, but they blend together nicely. Some roasted coffee and chocolate flavors that come together with some subtle spicy hops. Nice clean, dry finish. RooftopRogue (423), Champaign, Illinois, USA
| 1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 3/5 | 1/10 | 1/5 | 3/20 | Jan 3, 2006 This beer smells like freshly cut vinyl siding. It is a deep amber color with a thick almond colored head. This beer is thin and bitter to the point that it sucks the moisture off of your tongue. It leaves a dry metallic aftertaste. Nice to have the roast malts inline with the lighter silkier elements. I don’t either of these beers are that good seperatley, but hey everything seems to have its place. kfarrnd (112), Oldsmar, Florida, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 16, 2005 22 oz bottle. Poured out a rich dark brown with a medium off white head. Great strong aroma of roasted malt, chocolate and a touch of yeasty ale. The taste is rich malt, bitter coffee and dark chocolate from the Black Hawk with just a touch of dried fruit from the Eye of the Hawk. Very smooth on the palate, just a tad thin, but still enjoyable. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts in this case, the best Mendocino I’ve had yet. SSSteve (2090), Atlanta, Georgia, USA

Rich roasted malts of moderate complexity with a crisp hoppy finish. Relatively thin in its finish but I consider that a positive. Crit (2409), New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada
