There is just a bit of copper or aluminumum here and there. It has the characteristics of the ale with the thin watered down color of thier stout. Bot are present in the taste clearly. jasonp (1513), Sterling/Dulles, Virginia, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 21, 2005 Dark red in color. Creamy head. Long lasting. Aroma is malty. Hopefully a hint of hops. Let’s see. A little watery. Decent cocoa flavor. Not excellent; however, not bad either. Good enough to drink again. aracauna (2391), Georgia, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Nov 10, 2005 Pours black with ruby coming out in the light. The head is an airy foam, large and long lasting. The smell is faintly malty and the hops come across as a little stale. Not skunky, but maybe a little past their prime. The flavor is a tease. There’s just enough stout there to make you aware of what you’re missing and there’s not enough of the pale ale there to satisfy the pale ale cravings. Overall a couple of beers that would have been better had they never been mixed. tronraner (1938), Seymour, Tennessee, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 7, 2005 Bottle. Pours very dark mahogany with rocky off-white head. The aroma is yeast and caramel malt. There is a warm, hoppy flavor with earthy tones and some grain. I can really detect both the Black Hawk and the Eye of the Hawk. Interesting. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 7, 2005 bottle. Pours a nice deep, full, dark red with a rocky, dense head. The bold aroma is yeasty with a bit of caramel malt. It’s got a full caramel malty body with a touch of some dry, wine notes. The finish is another dose of malts. This is better than the black hawk or eye of the hawk because it’s much less one dimensional. Hoawever, it needs something still to really be balanced or truly savory. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 7, 2005 Dark muddy brown color with thin white head. The nose is rich with nutty caramel malts and grassy hops. Some pine thing going on here as well. The flavor is creamy, balanced, rich, the flavors from the 2 styles blend fairly well and create a harmony . Good essence of black and tan here. Terminus (1955), Las Cruces, New Mexico, USA
