Rich roasted aroma with vanilla, milk and a hint of chocolate. Color is a very dark brown with a hint of red. Flavor is sharp with a little bitterness. Once that passes, it is a nice smooth easy drinking brew with plenty of roasted malts and a bit more chocolate but this time bittersweet. Finish is a little dry and bitter. A pretty good version of a black and tan or black and red as this case may be. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA

Having said that, i enjoyed this one. I mixed it myself in my kitchen. Tastes just like a combo of the 2 beers mentioned, and they are both good, which makes the sum of the parts good. A very enticing blend of two great beers from this brewery. Rich tasting and warming with a nice hint of spiciness from the hops. Cool label also. Lou18 (1353), West Paterson, New Jersey, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 1, 2005 I like this brewer. I saw a dark brown body, red hig lights, with a tan creamy head. The nose was malty and sour, more like an ale. The tastew as chocolate with some hops and a nice after taste. This was a nice brew. heemer77 (4312), Savannah, Missouri, USA

Nice tan coloring in the frothy head. Aroma of light coffee and chocolate. There are also cherries and a little floral character. The taste is coffee and some light grapefruit. Makes me think of a light breakfast. There is also a hint of pine in the finish. A nice smooth body that makes this a nice session. beeryum (652), Norcross, Georgia, USA

Malty aroma with some roasted characters, and some hoppy characters. Similar flavors, caramel malts, some roastedness, hints of chocolate, and some hops. Finishes bitter. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 20, 2005 Bottle - big, deep aroma. Much malt. Black as night. Quickly dissipating beige head. Very interesting flavor! Reminds me of some of the dark imports I used to drink at Fat Cats in Louisville in the late 1980’s. Likelly not well kept. Complex. Bounces all over the mouth. Dark fruit. Dusty. Specialty malts. Kind of an odd palate for a dark beer. A little thin and quite carbonated. Glad I bought this one!
