Commercial Description:
Black Hawk Stout retains the big traditional flavors of an Irish-style stout and yet offers a refreshing dry crispness that is rare in many dark beers. "Bottle Conditioned" Black Hawk Stout is replete with a rich, roasted malt flavor that makes this not-so-heavy stout, creamy and ever so smooth. It has a subtlety that surprises and converts even the most reticent stout drinker.

Seems more porter-like...mahogany in color with a small bubbly head. Aroma is weak but displays roasted coffee and bitter chocolate. Flavor is watered-down and somewhat bitter going down. Pass.

Not stouty enough to be a stout. Advert says a awesome head, when mine dissipated faster than the Cubs in the playoffs. Malty definitely, but another one of those beers where the finish is dead. And watery as hell.

Black in colour, receding head. Faint smell, typical stout flavours without pushing the envelope; chocolate, malt, roasted barley. Finish was weak and copper-like. Overall, I couldn’t really get into this one.

This has another nice Mendocino noble bird label. The aroma is floral hops, coffee, and dark bread. Black pour with a light head and no lace. The taste is first rate - dry, bready, and complex. Coffee and hops come thru in the finish. It is fairly light-bodied for a stout, but still flavorful. This is another good brew from Mendocino,.

Aroma – Deep rich dark malts with hints coffee.
Appearance – Black in color, thin head and clear.
Flavor – Nice malt flavor the dark roasty malts give of a chocolate and coffee flavor.
Palate – Good Mouthfeel, Stout like texture with a dry finish.
Overall – This was a very good stout with great dark malt flavors. Has a great taste and is a keeper.

Pours next to black with a tall lasting head. Moderately roasted aromas. Medium full nectar with a silky texture and minimal effers. It’s a mild stout and easy to put down. The roast is mellow and has defined flavors of roasted coffee bean. The finish is dry.

From a sampler pack. A good representation of a basic stout. Has a decent head with a pleasant malty aroma. The taste has all the elements of a good stout but is just a little watery. This is the best beer from the sampler and makes me want to try some of their better beers.
