Commercial Description:
Black Hawk Stout retains the big traditional flavors of an Irish-style stout and yet offers a refreshing dry crispness that is rare in many dark beers. "Bottle Conditioned" Black Hawk Stout is replete with a rich, roasted malt flavor that makes this not-so-heavy stout, creamy and ever so smooth. It has a subtlety that surprises and converts even the most reticent stout drinker.

Dark brown with thin quickly fading tan head. Aroma of chocolate, cocoa and licorice. Flavor of roasted malt and chocolate. Light palate with semi-bitter dry finish. So-so.

nice tarry black pour with tightly laced brown head - aroma of chocolate, malt, coffee followed by marvelously blended flavors of roasted malt, yeast, and alcohol

Dark brown/ black pour. Small, light tan head. Receded quickly and left little lace. Hardly a nose to it. Some roasty grains, a little coffee, and a whiff of smoke. Bland flavor and palate. Nuances of cold coffee grounds and burnt wood. A touch sweet with some bitterness on the finish. There is nothing to this, it’s almost like it never existed. Dirty water. I do realize this is a "dry" stout and lacks the bold flavors I love in a "sweet" or "imperial". The whole package on this brew is off, body is thin, the flavors that should be there are not or are diluted.

Pours dark brown, nearly black. Short tan head. Licorice, chocolate, sweet malt, and some roasted coffee in the aroma. Very loose and watery mouthfeel, not creamy as advertised. Bakers’ chocolate, roasted barley, some coffee, and a bitter and dry hop finish. Decent.

From bottle... poured watery black with medium head that stuck around just long enough. Aroma weak with a bit of chocolate. Nice roasty flavor. Slightly bitter and dry finish. Pretty dang good.

opaque deep dark almost black yet still brown. light head with large individual bubbles. Not much aroma to speak of, a bit of the malt perhaps. Starts mildly sweet quickly yielding to some chocolate and... hops! Not much on the aroma side with the hops, but they come through with the bitter at the end. Feels a bit flat. Tasty.

Bottle. Poured black with foamy white head. Malty aroma with a hop note. Medium body malty flavour with bittersweet chocolate and a coffee note. Something of a bland finish. This is not a bad stout, but not one to rave about.
