Commercial Description:
Black Hawk Stout retains the big traditional flavors of an Irish-style stout and yet offers a refreshing dry crispness that is rare in many dark beers. "Bottle Conditioned" Black Hawk Stout is replete with a rich, roasted malt flavor that makes this not-so-heavy stout, creamy and ever so smooth. It has a subtlety that surprises and converts even the most reticent stout drinker.

From a 120z bottle--Poured a dark black-brown body with a a thick well attenuated khaki head. First taste of metallic bitterness, but settles into a sweet coffee malt flavor. Medium dry finish. Nice, light breakfast stout.

Aroma is milk chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate. Poured black, nice creamy tan head that slowly dissipated to a thin creamy cap. Left lots of lacing. Flavor is slightly milk chocolate, then burnt roasted malt, strong bitter coffee followed by a soft dark chocolate. Very bitter, which at first was enjoyable, but as I continued to drink it became a bit too much. medium to full body, mildly thick texture, soft carbonation, a long very bitter finish that is overboard. I don’t enjoy overly bitter brews so this wasn’t one of my favorites. Howver, if you like them bitter you will love this. Not a bad beer, just not the way I like my stouts. Do give it a try though for it may well be one you like!

Bottle... Poured near black with a moderate brown head. Aroma is faint, leafy malt. Subtle palate, like a light foam. Mild chocolate up front, roasted malt, and a bitter balance with a sorta metallic and coffee finish.

Bottle. Pours a deep brown, almost black. Very nutty, roasted malt flavor. Modest body, with a good nutty malt flavor. Very good find, for my father’s garage fridge.

Very dark chestnut brown, moderate brown bubbly head with brief retention and no lace. Burnt malt and soy sauce aroma. Burnt malt roasty palate, thin mouthfeel with too much carbonation, bitter finish.

From Glass: Aroma is of molasses and coffee. Brown head that quickly diminishes. It’s medium bodied with a roasted, slightly bitter finish.

pours black with a thin creamy brown head. aroma is black licorice with a touch of citrus hops. has a medium to full body with good lacing and carbonation. flavor is the same as aroma with a little bakers chocolate and is a bit stronger. the bitter chocolate sticks on the tongue for a bit. and as it warms there is some espresso in the aroma and more so in the flavor. not bad i was expecting a little less. it is a little thin, but is made up at the end. there is a little creamy feel in the beginning, and if there was 1/2 in rating, the aroma would be a 6.5.

Mendocino is right about "not-so-heavy stout," and "refreshing dry crispness". Mild roasted malt flavor for a stout. Almost black color, modest head and medium body.
