Commercial Description:
Black Hawk Stout retains the big traditional flavors of an Irish-style stout and yet offers a refreshing dry crispness that is rare in many dark beers. "Bottle Conditioned" Black Hawk Stout is replete with a rich, roasted malt flavor that makes this not-so-heavy stout, creamy and ever so smooth. It has a subtlety that surprises and converts even the most reticent stout drinker.

pour is black with a touch of ruby, thin tan head that goes away rapidly. smell is weak, cocoa, roasted malts, coffee. taste is lively on the tongue, some chocolate, soda water, thin body for a stout, ends dry and slightly bitter.

A bit thin for a stout. Not a lot of aroma either. Nice malt flavor. Pretty smooth finish. It is like the Lite version of a stout.

12 oz bottle. very dark brown with a tan head. Aroma of chocolate, light roast and light floral hops. Taste is moderate roast and chocolate, with some burnt sugar and light caramel sweetness. medium bodied. Finishes lightly roasty with a light lingering hop bitterness. decent, simple stout.

The twelve ounce bottle, a gift from Aaron, poured a deep dark brown with faint reddish tint on the meniscus. The pour produced very little head and I suspect something was wrong with my bottle. The aroma was sweet is if it were a merlot that had been made with malts. The roasted malts are noticeable in the taste, and the hops provide a dry prickly finish. Body was medium and smooth, and unfortunately, mine was a little anemic, probably due to age or issues with the bottle itself. I’m going to need to try this one again.

Pretty good. Typical stout flavor of roasted malts and chocolate, but with a slightly dry hop finish instead of sweetness. Medium bodied with low carbonation. Highly drinkable and slightly different than some other stouts.

Full of chicory. I don’t know about this one- a pleasant flavor but not much else to crow about.

Had this beer on 10/15/1998. Aroma is so light you can’t smell a thing. Carbonation and head are good. Starts with a somewhat light body that goes down with a sharp feel. Finish is a sorry, weak ass, peace of shit for a stout. Overall this beer sucks.
