Commercial Description:
Black Hawk Stout retains the big traditional flavors of an Irish-style stout and yet offers a refreshing dry crispness that is rare in many dark beers. "Bottle Conditioned" Black Hawk Stout is replete with a rich, roasted malt flavor that makes this not-so-heavy stout, creamy and ever so smooth. It has a subtlety that surprises and converts even the most reticent stout drinker.

Sweet dark malt aroma with hints of chocolat and fruit. Dark amber color with a small tan head. Mild start with a sweetish finish. Light carbonation makes this one a little watery.

Nice beer nice head. I liked the taste, tastes of malt, coffee (which is nice since I like coffes so much) The whole line of Mendocino is ok but not my favorite. I also wouldn’t turn one down though

355 ml. Opaque with a large, creamy and lasting head. Aroma is iron, charred wood, some slight earthy molasses. Taste is nice blend of earth, wood, smoke, apples, coffee, chocolate, molasses, marshmallow. There is an all-encompassing fruity, sour-metallic hop flavor that counters the other flavors well. Smooth and medium-bodied, with not much tingle from hops or carbonation - nice.

12 oz. bottle Aroma:Chocolate and roasted malts prevalant with coffee underneath Appearance:Classic dark brown with a disappointing head that dissipated quickly Flavor:Here is where I was pleasantly surprised by the deep roasted malts with some sweet chocolate and bitter coffee very nicely balanced with the alcohol presence Palate:Some bitter dryness here but the roasted flavors lingered well Overall:Not phenomenal but certainly worth a peek. I liked it and would drink it again.

(bottle, thanks Olso2116) Pours dark brown with a light tan head. Aroma is coffee with some dark chocolate, and a slight hop smell too. Flavor initially begins with a crisp tart taste, but then rounds out to a nice roasted finish. Quite good.

[Bottle] Pours dark brown with a tan head. Aroma is malty, a little sweet, a little roasted. Nice roasted malt taste that lingers for quite some time. Slight bitterness in the finish. Bottle was only $0.99 on sale at a local store so I thought I would give it a shot and didn’t have any expectations for it. Have to say that I was pleasantly surprised--didn’t blow me away but I definitely think it is underrated here.

Bottle, nice roast aroma, some chocolate, pours dark brown, with a touch of red, no head to speak of. Fairly carbonated, watery, a bit of chalk, kind of metallic. An Ok stout.
