Commercial Description:
Black Hawk Stout retains the big traditional flavors of an Irish-style stout and yet offers a refreshing dry crispness that is rare in many dark beers. "Bottle Conditioned" Black Hawk Stout is replete with a rich, roasted malt flavor that makes this not-so-heavy stout, creamy and ever so smooth. It has a subtlety that surprises and converts even the most reticent stout drinker.

This was a very average stout. Poured from a bottle a dark brown, which was very close to black with a brown head. Mostly smelled of roasted malts. Nothing really stands out in the taste. Weak roasted malt taste and also light hints of coffee and chocolate.

Black with big, foamy head / Malt, smoke and coffee nose / Light, spritzy palate with weak finish / Medium body with light/weak flavors of bacon and roast coffee / More like a porter.

Pours black with brownish hues, a white rim, and no head. Weak, oily lacing. Very weak chocolate notes on the nose; a little lacking in aroma. This should be called a smoked stout. Strong notes of campfire wood, little coffee, hints of cocoa in the finish with barely any hops to mention. Medium carbonation. The taste and palate are mildly lop-sided overall, but decent.

Good coffee and vanilla aromas. Pours black with a tan head. Roasty malt flavor, hints of burnt coffee, very smooth and creamy flavor, with a nice vanilla finish. There’s a nice little hop spice in there too.

From a six pack from Woodman’s. A better than average stout with good roast maltiness and some sweetness. Nice chocolate flavor and creamy.

12 oz. bottle from ’Naka. Poured dark black with small creamy head. Nose of malt and nuts. . . toasted and roasted. Tastes roasty, but light. Not over powering. Nice malt character, slightly sweet. Pretty decent.

Dark pour with some off white head. Toasted malts dominate the aroma. The flavor is burnt toast and chocolate. Dry finish.

Appearance: Pours a black body with a medium, fizzy-looking beige head. Smell: Not a bad aroma at all! Molasses and cookie dough with lesser notes of chocolate, coffee, and roasted grains. Taste: A bit thin-flavored, with only hints of everything from the aroma along with an ashen, burnt bitter finish with just a tiny bit of hops. Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Moderate carbonation. Drinkability: While its not stoutstanding, it is pretty decent, but could benefit some more body.
