Commercial Description:
Black Hawk Stout retains the big traditional flavors of an Irish-style stout and yet offers a refreshing dry crispness that is rare in many dark beers. "Bottle Conditioned" Black Hawk Stout is replete with a rich, roasted malt flavor that makes this not-so-heavy stout, creamy and ever so smooth. It has a subtlety that surprises and converts even the most reticent stout drinker.

Slight diacetyl on the nose, an upfront bitter flavor, but it seems to be a cover for a watery/weak backbone. Leaves a lingering, creamy mouthfeel

Smells of dark roasted coffee and chocolate malts. Taste is like it smells, nice dark malt flavor. Not bad.

12oz bottle. Pours a dark brown with very little head. Aroma of coffee and roasted malts. Taste is very similar with a lot of the roasted malts coming through.

Lovely, dark and deep. Pours a thick, dark brown with a beige head. Nose is coffee and roasted malts. Taste is more malts and coffee. I also got that "burnt" taste - which is a good taste, by the way. A filling beer that I enjoyed very much.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle with no expiration date or lot code anywhere to be seen. The pour is black like molasses with a small tan head that breaks apart but never really goes away. The aroma is roasted malts and coffee grinds with a touch of hops in the background. The mouthfeel is bold and creamy. A burnt sensation in the taste and a subtle serving of dry hops. Very smooth and quite nice.

Bottle. A black color pour with a thin off white head , light crbonation, little to no lacing. Aroma of roasty grain , burn toffee ,and coffee. Flavor is rather bland, roasted grain, some hoppiness , slightly bitter , coffee , and charcoal. Thin body , watey mouthfeel , dry slightly bitter finish. Drinkable but nothing I would buy again .

Bottle. Pours a dark brown with a very small light tan head that diminishes quickly to nothing. The aroma is roasted malt with caramel and chocolate. Decent spotty lacing along the glass. Thin mouthfeel with a roasted malt taste with chocolate and coffee flavors and a dry finish. Easy to drink, a good dry strout from Mendocino.
