Mendocino Black Hawk Stout

Bottle (12oz). Deep clear ruby-brown, almost opaque, large lasting foamy tan head. Dry, sweet roast aroma, light coffee, a hint of cola, grassy hops, an odd tang that puts me off a bit. Taste is very bitter, oily, dry burnt molasses, stale coffee, long bitter finish. Body’s a little weak, it’s slighlty lively, acidic; ultimately thin and mildly disappointing.

Bottled. Decent coffee nose, some bitterness in flavor. Drinkable, but not as strong as I’d like.

Nose of coffee and chocolatewith a sour note; not a strong aroma. Opaque ebony with a thick, long-lasting tan head. Some coffee malts, a little smokiness, in the flavor, Body fairly thin.

Dark ruby pour with a quickly vanihing beige head. Ashtray and licorice in the nose with some dayquil. Watery flavor with lots of vegetables and vinegar, dull amounts of burnt malts and some floor cleaners on the finish. Not good.

From 12oz Bottle. Deep mahogany tinted brown pour with a thin layer of white foamy head. Aroma is a bit weak, but pleasant blend of typical coffee and chocolate, but with a slight addition of hazlenut to enhance it slightly. Medium, crisply carbonated body with flavors of burned toast. Dry and slightly bitter finish of what else - coffee and roasted malts. Ok, overall. This one is kind of middle of the road in that it does nothing mind blowing or surprising, but at the same time it does nothing to disappoint.

Bottle - huge roasty/coffee nose. This stout is black with a beige head. Kind of an odd flavor. It is nice, but the malt is quickly gone leaving nothing but roast in the aftertaste. It is good, but leaves me wanting something more. Maybe just a touch thin with a spark of carbonation. Good, but ...

Mild hoppy aroma, nutty, burnt. Nice looking, dark brown body. Flavor hits hoppy, then goes malty, with some licorice and burnt flavors. Pretty decent beer.

Bottle, poors black with little head. Scent of malt and alittle chocolate. Taste is very dry and bitter. After taste like coffee with no cream or sugar. Not very impressed here.
