Commercial Description:
Black Hawk Stout retains the big traditional flavors of an Irish-style stout and yet offers a refreshing dry crispness that is rare in many dark beers. "Bottle Conditioned" Black Hawk Stout is replete with a rich, roasted malt flavor that makes this not-so-heavy stout, creamy and ever so smooth. It has a subtlety that surprises and converts even the most reticent stout drinker.

Bottle. Pours thick and black with a tan head. Roasted malt aromas with chocolate and coffee notes. Fizzy mouth feel with a smoked malt flavor. Bits of coffee, chocolate and licorice. The carbonation is a bit high and the smokiness threw me off a bit but it’s an all right beer.

Black, tan head, nice toast nose, nice dry roast flavor. Medium body and palate, very drinkable stout. I enjoyed

Pours black with a small tan head that quickly fades. The aroma is Chocolate, molases, some roast. The flavor is better than the aroma, slight acidity, slightly sweet, roast, cola, chocolate, smoke and brown sugar. Medium body, smooth.

Bottle poured a translucent brownish black with a small lasting brown head. Aromas of roasted malt, coffee and a hint of smoke. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of roasted malt, light coffee and some smokiness with a smooth creamy finish.

This stout pours well with a lingering, medium tall head. It’s very dark, slightly translucent, and the aroma is malty with undertones of smoke or something burning. The taste is good but nothing really special to me. It is malty and dry all the way through the finish and it reminds me more of other brews I’ve tried such as Celebrator, which is certainly NOT a stout. The body seems a bit thin to be a stout, more like a bock in some ways. It also reminds me a bit of Guiness extra stout in those damned bottles which I refuse to buy (prefer tap or nitrogen-cylinder cans)! Perhaps I prefer Imperial stouts to the dry ones, and though I like this one OK, I don’t see much of a reason to buy it again.

Robe noire aux reflets roux surmontée d’une mousse brune épaisse persistente. Arômes de café, de caramel et de houblon amérisant. Saveurs de houblon aromatique et de caramel. Un peu aqueuse...

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Pours black and opaque wit a tall, handsome head with good retention. Light aroma of roasted malt. Medium body with notes of dry, lightly burned and somewhat ashy malt, with an underlying fruity edge. Lightly burned, bitter finish. A very decent dry stout. 270306
