Roasted malt aromas with chocolate and coffee notes. Fizzy mouth feel with a smoked malt flavor. Bits of coffee, chocolate and licorice. The carbonation is a bit high and the smokiness threw me off a bit but it’s an all right beer. anaheim1983 (111), Anaheim, California, USA

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 23, 2006 This stout pours well with a lingering, medium tall head. It’s very dark, slightly translucent, and the aroma is malty with undertones of smoke or something burning. The taste is good but nothing really special to me. It is malty and dry all the way through the finish and it reminds me more of other brews I’ve tried such as Celebrator, which is certainly NOT a stout. The body seems a bit thin to be a stout, more like a bock in some ways. It also reminds me a bit of Guiness extra stout in those damned bottles which I refuse to buy (prefer tap or nitrogen-cylinder cans)! Perhaps I prefer Imperial stouts to the dry ones, and though I like this one OK, I don’t see much of a reason to buy it again. Miguel (1181), Saint-Ours, Quebec, Canada
