I am really impressed with the way this brewery’s beers are varied and true to style and this stout is no exception. Dark and inviting, the flavor is smooth and velvety. Finishes quite dry with a lingering aftertaste. Slick (1962), Thief River Falls, Minnesota, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 18, 2005 Dark brown to nearly black color, small brown head that faded quickly but left a slight lace behind.Nice malty aroma with a mild hint of smoke and maybe some hops, maybe coffee and maybe some chocolate as well, but very light.Nice malty taste upfront, some what thin and watery at first then it picks up a bit towrds the middle where the mild coffee taste and a fairly bitter chocolate kick in and finishes off with a bitter chocolate hop thing going on.Over all not bad fairly smooth and easy to drink in the beginning, but gets heavily bitter in the end but that could be just because it’s my second brew of the night and the old buds aren’t ready for it yet. shadey (1500), Rochester, New York, USA

Sweet chocolate flavor. Tastes like pretty good chocolate. No alcohol in the flavor. Lou18 (1353), West Paterson, New Jersey, USA

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Dec 26, 2004 Aroma is pretty run of the mill, nothing special about the malt nose. Appearance is really nice, dark, deep brown, with a foamy tan head, about a quarter inch stays on top throughout the glass. The flavor definintely indicates why this is considered a dry stout, the bitterness carries from beginning to end. If you are used to imperials, this is kind of disarming, I wasn’t really expecting so much bitterness, as it spans the entire mouthful as well as the aftertaste. Sancho (245), Da Bronx, New York, USA
