Commercial Description:
Black Hawk Stout retains the big traditional flavors of an Irish-style stout and yet offers a refreshing dry crispness that is rare in many dark beers. "Bottle Conditioned" Black Hawk Stout is replete with a rich, roasted malt flavor that makes this not-so-heavy stout, creamy and ever so smooth. It has a subtlety that surprises and converts even the most reticent stout drinker.

Dark with a whisp of a tan head. Poured rather flat. Drank a six pack throughout the week. Lots of chocolate and oat flavors, but somehow not really sweet. Dry decent finish. A good sixer to pick up every now and then.

Very dark brown pour with ring of dark tan head. Nose is roasty and some sweet dark berry. Flavor is a bitter and has some lactose and a great deal of roastiness as it warms. Very dry finish.

12oz bottle sampled at the Hopsnobbery Collective stout tasting on 1.16.09. Pours dark brown with a thin beige head. Dry and roasty coffee aroma. Flavor pretty much the same. Not terribly complex, but better than I was expecting.

Pours dark mahogany with a medium, foamy wheat bread colored head. Aroma is roast, a little smoke, wet leaves, straw, planty hops and toasted lemon poppy seed bread. Flavor has lots of roast, fresh baked granola toastiness, molasses, planty hops, burnt sugar and a nice slightly bitter herbal hop a char finish.

Dark brown pour with a lighter tinge to it. Mild nutty smell and flavor with hints of malt as well. Very watery and not terribly enjoyable.
