Commercial Description:
Black Hawk Stout retains the big traditional flavors of an Irish-style stout and yet offers a refreshing dry crispness that is rare in many dark beers. "Bottle Conditioned" Black Hawk Stout is replete with a rich, roasted malt flavor that makes this not-so-heavy stout, creamy and ever so smooth. It has a subtlety that surprises and converts even the most reticent stout drinker.

Bottled. A deep red beer with a brown head. The aroma is sweet with notes of chocolate and roasted malt. The flavor is slightly acidic stemming from the roasted malt, but also sweet and with notes of malt, and a burnt edge.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Pours black and opaque wit a tall, handsome head with good retention. Light aroma of roasted malt. Medium body with notes of dry, lightly burned and somewhat ashy malt, with an underlying fruity edge. Lightly burned, bitter finish. A very decent dry stout. 270306

Bottled. Pitch black, opaque colour with a thick, longlasting brown head. Aroma is chocolate, roasted malts and some toffee. Also a bit spices. Flavour is spices, caramel, roasted malts and coffee. Some slight bitterness in finish. It feels slightly sweet and the palate is quite thin. Good stout, but nothing very exciting.

Very dark brown, with a thin head. The aroma is roasty, chocolatey with a hint of nuttiness. Somewhat thin and fizzy, but also with a lot of roast. A hint of hop at the end, but overall quite austere.

Black color; creamy head. Aroma of roasted malt and milk chocolate or chocolate drink (strange!). Good body based on the roasted malt and caramel; high bitterness. Just a bit weak at the end.

Tasting Notes from Fall 2000: Smooth, big, full flavor. Chocolate overtones. Goes down wonderfully
