way I like ’em’, meaning, this is
the way I like my stouts. Firm assertive
body, mild sweetness, slightly toasted
flavors. Mild hints at chocolate and coffee.
Excellent beer for savoring. keg154 (2), dexter, Michigan, USA does not count | 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | May 26, 2004 I loved this stout. Well-balanced and flavorful. Could serve as a beer with desert. Pinnhead (93), New Jersey, USA

It was the battle of the Irish... but my wife threw in a bottle of this Black Hawk just to make it interesting and yup, you guessed it... the Black Hawk kicked the imports butts!!! xav33 (313), Midland, MI, Michigan, USA

12 oz bottle
Moderate pour in an English pint
Unknown brewing (recent?), flown into 05/07
Poured black with deep mahogany highlights with a huge frothy somewhat lasting light brown head with good lacing.
Smelt of moderate licorice, molasses, ashes and burnt grain, brown sugar.
Taste was upfront moderate bitter burnt grain and sweet molasses followed by a strong burnt grain bitterness and light black licorice and molasses sweetness on a long finish.
Palate was medium bodied, slightly oily, softly carbonated and lightly astringent.
Overall, I really like this. It’s like a bolder version of Guinness. Raytailgater (105), Rockledge, Pennsylvania, USA

Completely opaque and black, a little bit less sweet than most stouts, some notes of coffee and chocolate and ... is that Jagermeister?? This was outstanding. Bov (5495), Bienne, Switzerland
