Appearance is just fine, but great hoppy flavor with a great bitter finish. I will buy this again. Did I say it had a great bitter finish and aftertaste? | 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Apr 25, 2005 Bottled. Pours hazy pale orange with a foamy white head. Sour malt aroma greets you and then a citrus hop aroma lingers around pushing away the maltiness. Bitter hoppiness is huge near the front end and the malt is faintly evident as the taste fades. A fair amount of thin lacing clings to the glass. A tad fizzy and carbonated with a medium to light body and dry fininsh. Schultsc (483), Henderson, Nevada, USA

| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Apr 11, 2005 A very hoppy beer...reminds me of Sweetwater Blue a bit...with much more hops. Not bad...but I probably wouldn’t buy it again. tomhenderson (127), Carolinas area, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Mar 25, 2005 An OK APA, but nothing to write home about. Upon opening the 12 oz bottle, it immediately foamed over. I poured it immediately to a glass. Very cloudy and bright brass in color. Head laced the glass pretty well. (Some wheat content to explain head retention and cloudiness?) Aroma OK as was the taste, but again, nothing to write home about. SNPA is better, and I’m not a huge fan of that. For an American (esp. California) pale ale, I thought the hop aroma and taste was too light. My bottle was also labeled Saratoga Springs, NY. garrison (456), Cin. city, Ohio, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 9, 2005 From a bottle - This one pours a brassy yellow with a thin, rapidly diminishing
white head and a grainy aroma. Tastewise, this is a fine example of a middle-of-the-road American pale ale with a good hop "bite", but nothing really spectacular about it.
p.s. What’s with this being termed a California brew? The bottle I have clearly states "BREWED & BOTTLED MENDOCINO BREWING CO. SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y." ! waveman352 (178), Walden, New York, USA
| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Feb 24, 2005 bottle. A glorified American pale ale that isn’t very good. Way too big of a head and very very bitter. In my opinion this beer pretty much sucks. Very hoppy which is the only thing that kind of gives it some flavor and character. Grassy flavor and aroma, wouldn’t both me to never try this beer again. rudolf (1782), Buffalo, New York, USA
