The aroma is malty with some floral hop tones coming through. Medium bodied and very smooth, the flavor is well balanced but slightly malty up front. The finish is a lingering sweetness with just a bit of hop bitterness. This is a very nice pale ale, well balanced and delicious. My favorite so far from these guys. bhensonb (4274), Woodland, California, USA

Definitely no sweetness. If I couldn’t buy it everyday, I’d ache for it. The finish is pretty smooth, and the aftertaste seems top of the tongue rather than sides. Mouthfeel is thin but sudsy. A classic. Seems most people don’t adequately appreciate this pioneering ale. labattblueleaf (225), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA

Golden in color and due to the lower hop flavor, finishes crisp. I also noticed stuff floating in it but I'm not smart enough to figure out what the hell it is. GOOD BEER! beerguzzler (31), Louisiana, USA

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jul 3, 2001 Served very cold on this blazing NorCal day. Big floral nose with a hint of citrus. Cloudy, tan with a nice sticky lacing. This is a complex and interesting but short-lived bitterness with a pinging sour finish -- this is a complete ride through a refreshingly full bodied ale. Perfect effervescence. I have no idea what the other chaps here are tasting, perhaps it’s the very cold serve? For me, this is one killer brew. TAR (2093), Boulder Co., Colorado, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jun 2, 2003 Hazed pear. Tinge of sticky off-white foam. Subdued aroma of musty books, honeysuckle, conifer, cookie, straw, flowers, apple skin, grapefruit, vague citric phenol, and perfume. Full bodied. Nicely conditoned in the bottle. Starts very chewy with some sappy hop overtones. Underlying grapefruit, fruity leather aspects, flowers, alongside a substantial dosage of pale malt and bready yeast. Lightly acidic. Considering the pungent Clusters and Cascades used, it remains well balanced at the finish with a lemon zest, doughy, leatherish interplay. This is extremely well crafted, showcasing clean, flavorful yeast notes, lightly floral, coarse hop properties, and a delightful pale malt backdrop. A gem of a pale ale. argo0 (6907), Washington DC, USA
