Mendocino Eye of the Hawk Select Ale

Pours an orange amber color with a healthy off white head. Has a sweet aroma that translates into the taste. Powerful caramel flavor up front, and finishes with a mild dry bitterness. I like this one, its a little different, interesting and pretty good.

Poured from the bottle into a pint glass. An orange-amber color with a very small white head with short retention. The aroma was a mixture of caramel malt and some hops, possibly citrus, but nothing stood out. Pretty good flavor, mostly bitter and hoppy, with just a touch of sweetness. Average mouthfeel and carbonation, mostly dry, especially at the finish, and with a noticeable alcohol kick. A decent beer, but I had hoped for more.

Bottled: Very drinkable, pours amber golden. nice nose, aroma sweet and hoppy.

Sample pack from Binny’s in Wheeling, IL. Pours a nice copper/amber with thin head. Aroma isn’t there at first, then comes through decently. Flavor is well-balanced, slightly hoppy but very drinkable. Actually, I can’t detect the alcohol at all. Good, not great, but good.

Not so good. Real bitter at first taste, it mellows into blandness as it warms. The color was pretty, and the scent was nicely floral. I did taste a little fruit maybe, but I don’t like highly hopped beer.

This is strong but very nice, smooth, and tasty. It’s a light gold-amberwith a big off-white head that lasts a long time and leaves nice lacing. The aroma is very nice - flowery sweet with toasty grain, honey, hints of earth, and caramel and a hint of citrus. The taste is also very nice, being rather sweet with a light bitterness slowly building towards the end and a light, zesty alcoholic bite in the finish. It has elements of sweetish, caramelly grain, toasted grain, a light fruity quality, and honey, plus a fullness, warmth, and kick from the alcohol without any unpleasantness.

Pours a clear amber with very minimal head. Nose is like sugary malts. Thick with a syrup tone as well. Flavor is thick with a syrup quality as well. I guess that appeals to the feel as much as anything else. Pretty nice, though the alcohol is a bit much. And the thick syrup tones aren’t really helping either. I wonder if this could smooth out over time.

another surprise for me at the local bottleshop, went in and couldn’t find anything new except for some asian and s. american lagers, chose this beer simply b’cuz there was nothing else avaliblbe plus this beer has got a bad rep with older bottles sneeking through at my local..review...

pours a light golden sand colour ... the lacing kicks ass, impressive... smell is of some honey, newtons, good sweet stuff .... taste is simple yet fruity and down-able with class.. .. this brew is a hidden gem, and the price makes it a winner!
