| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 10, 2009 Hazy caramel-orange with a medium tan slowly decapitating head that laces a tad. Aroma of alcohol up front with caramel, fruit, toffee and pale malt as well. Taste is mostly malted with toffee and alcohol mixing it up with some fruits and figs. Mild hop presence on the finish leading to a very mild bitter finish. glennmastrange (868), hobe sound, Florida, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Sep 1, 2009 Bottle. Moderate to heavy malt notes of cookie and cereal, moderate perfume and orange for the hops, light soap for the yeast and background notes of date, toffee, maple syrup and a hint of licorice. Head is small, creamy, off-white with a little lacing and is fully diminishing. Color is clear copper. Flavor starts moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes moderately sweet and lightly acidic and bitter. Palate is on the fuller side of medium, watery yet a little slick, with a soft carbonation and a metallic and drying finish. Good aroma and an okay flavor, but a crappy mouthfeel sank this American Strong a bit. DrPiva (90), Alabama, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 18, 2009 Bottle. Pours with a copperish color with a medium head. Dried fruits like figs and raisins but the high alcohol content is noticeable in the aroma! A bit syrupy caramel, pineapple, fruits are balanced well by a strong presence of hops. | 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Aug 16, 2009 There’s a place called Hopland!? 355 mL. Pours a light copper with a one-finger off-white head. No lacing. Aroma is strawberries, some spicy hops, artificial chemicals. Taste is very earthy hops, dirt, buttered biscuit, toasted grain, caramel malt, and some artificial strawberry pancake syrup. Ew. Sticky palate. An odd combination. I see though that this is "bottle conditioned" and nicknamed "Eye." Well it sort of "sucks." drowland (1436), Tallahassee, Florida, USA
