Commercial Description:
Eye of the Hawk is an excellent, strong, rich bodied ale that is "Bottle Conditioned" to perfection. "Eye" is coppery reddish-amber in color and its unique taste is the result of a judicious mix of caramel and pale malted barley, balanced with Cluster, Cascade and Saaz hops. This gives the Eye its luxurious flavor, substantial mouth-feel and that slightly dry finish.

This one pours a nice, deep copper color with a small white colored head. The head dissipates rapidly. Slightly floral hop aroma, mildly malty too. Medium to heavy, creamy mouthfeel. Has some hop bitterness up front, but the malts take over in the end. Left with a nice, malty sweet after taste. Alcohol is well hidden.

bottle from Aaron, thanks. not sure why I’d put this on my want list. this beer was below average for any style. unlike any strong ale I’ve ever tried. mediciney in taste and cloyingly sweet. oh well, win some lose some.

Tried a cask-conditioned version at the Seattle International Beer Festival in 2004. Unfortunately I wasn’t enamored with the brew and found it average, especially in its esteemed company.

Not too strong, but then again, when was the last tea party? caramel, brown sugar, mentholated and fruiticious. or ficticious? definately not fiction. stephen king sucks. no real hopage. Definately a republican beer.

An average American strong. I thought this was a barley wine before I saw the description. Aroma was somewhat weak...caramel, malt and Vicks vapo-rub. I know...I don’t get it either but that’s what it smelled like. Pour was a cloudy dark amber with no head. Taste was strong, malty and Vicks-y. Not much hops present. Nothing I would have again.

Pours medium gold with a medium off-white head with minimal lacing. Nose is crisp wheat, apple, caramel malt. Flavor of apple juice, caramel, floral hops. Alcohol is well hidden until the finish when it builds. Wheat and bitter apple finish.

Pours brown/copper with thin head. Figgy, sugary dried fruits for aroma and flavor. Roasted malts, coffee, toffee make themselves known too. Chewy, almost syrupy caramel, pineapple, fruits are balanced well by a strengthening hops presence. Disguises the alcohol well, not a bad brew.

Pours an orange-amber color with a full, long lasting off-white head. Sweet malt aroma along with spicy notes. Tongue-coating mouthfeel with a maltly sweet taste, honey is present as well, along with some hop bitterness. Somewhat grassy and sour aftertaste. Quite good. the 8% ABV barely shows and it’s not uber-hoppy as you might expect from California.
