Commercial Description:
Eye of the Hawk is an excellent, strong, rich bodied ale that is "Bottle Conditioned" to perfection. "Eye" is coppery reddish-amber in color and its unique taste is the result of a judicious mix of caramel and pale malted barley, balanced with Cluster, Cascade and Saaz hops. This gives the Eye its luxurious flavor, substantial mouth-feel and that slightly dry finish.

On tap. Sweet syrupy with caramel... Too sweet. Over ripe melon fruity flavor.

Pours a clear amber color with an off-white head. Aroma is of sweet malts, caramel, dark fruits, and just a slight hint of alcohol. Flavor is very much the same with some floral hop tones underneath. An ok brew but nothing special.

12oz bottle. Pours thick with a decent head, very clear, aromas of sweet malt dominate along with some hop aroma and oxadation and a weird metalic smell. Flavor is much the same, a sweet scotish style malt flavor, some hops, though I’d like more to balance sweetness. Finishes kind of sweet too not inviting another sip. OK-nothing to write home about.

A rare beer and hard to find from Mendocino. Bought as part of a 4 six pack box. Very nice and strong. Aroma is indifferent but pour is nice with a thick head. Goes down very smooth and flavor is tremendous with a very hoppy flavor and little aftertaste.

Amber with not much of a head. Aroma is very floral and fresh. Slight bitterness, well disguised alcohol, earthy, but has a broccoli like flavor that is offputting.

Bottle. Light amber in color with a decent white head. Crisp initially on the palate with a mild taste of citrus and hops. Nice malt flavors and less alcohol comes through than one would expect from 8%. Smooth on the finish but certainly not anything pectacular. Nice beer but certainly would not search it out.

Draft. Copper color with a medium white head. Sweet, crisp, dry aroma with a slight amount of hops. Tastes slightly hoppy as well but I thought the alcohol was very well covered. Quite drinkable and smooth and pretty well balanced.

My wife saw me pouring this one and said it looked disgusting. What does she know about beer? I thought it looked good. Aroma is a balance of hop and malt with considerable dryness. First taste brings a strong malty / barley bite. The barley adds a nice bitterness. Mouthfeel is luxurious and creamy. One great thing about a malty beer is that you can lick your lips and taste the sweetness. This one does that. Eye of the Hawk comes right at you and keeps coming. It stayed consistent throughout and is very good.
