Aroma of caramel, fruits, and malt. Taste of the same with a bit of alcohol and more fruit and sweetness added. This medium to full bodied beer is not bad. jrob21 (1275), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 1/5 | 12/20 | Jul 13, 2009 Pour is a light brown with quickly dissipating off white head. Bottle from the bookhouse bar in midtown. Aroma is faint but toasted baked bread and caramel malt. The flavor is dominated by rubbing alcohol and not very pleasant. Unfortunately that took most enjoyment out of this thing for me and such that I will not be going back to this beer again. robertjm (413), El Cerrito, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 10, 2009 Good frothy head. Orange body, slightly hazy. Nice aroma, but VERY slight. Carbonation ample. Light body for a strong ale. Nice beer overall. jvmiller (532), Bel Air, Maryland, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 1, 2009 I pegged this one as an american strong. not quite an brown or ipa, not quite a barleywine, although it had leanings in that direction. was suprised to find the abv of this one. Very Malty, sharp bitterness. warm flavor to it, deep body. a solid ale. good. fidelis83 (729), Clinton, Iowa, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 27, 2009 Pours dull copper with a 1-2 ifnger creamy beige head. Aroma iscaramel, day old biscuits, chocolate, mellow citrus, apple and tree bark. Flavor is caramel, toast, apple, biscuit, roast, candied nuts, herbal and earthy notes. Finish is sweet grainy malt, herbal hops and that medicinal tase that mose Mendocino brews seem to have. Palate is medium bodied, somewhat slick throughout and has a slightly sharp fuzzy carbonation. Not bad all around, probably one of the better mendocino brews. illidurit (895), Santa Cruz, California, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 23, 2009 Poured into a pint glass. Golden orange with a lot of small sediment floating around. Nice thick light beige head leaves a bit of lacing. Aroma is rather ESB-like, with cookie-ish malt and earthy hops. Not a lot of strength for an 8% beer. Flavor is pale and crystal malty with iced tea notes and a cookie sweetness that comes on mid-palate. Finish is watery and metallic. Thinnish body, a little astringent, very dry. Inoffensive but boring. Just about what you’d expect from a Mendocino beer. 68aries (5), USA does not count | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 20, 2009 A very thick and lasting head. Its the reddish coppery color described on the commercial. Taste is much smoother and easier than I imagined. Very drinkable. An almost mediciney taste. I enjoyed it. I will get it again.
