| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 26, 2006 12 oz bottle. Deep copper colour. Rich sweet bredy/caramel malts, some Munich sweetness and toasted rye spiciness as well. Hops are sweet and spicy at the same time. Aroma is fairly unique. Sweet and a bit chewy. Earthy/spicy hop flavour. Malts are a bit more sugary and less complex than the aroma suggests. Light cherry fruit and a lingering woody bitterness. Come across very British and I quite like it. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Apr 26, 2006 The commercial description is right on. I would have to say I was impressed. I didn’t realize that the ABV was so high until I read this. Needless to say the alcohol is dangerously well hidden like an eight foot Diamondback rattler in a bush on a heavily traveled trail. Just ready to strike an abusive passerby. Fruity caramel with a slight steely finish. Highly recommended. WhiteSoxFan (152), USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 25, 2006 Bottle. Bottle conditioned. Cloudy, light copper. I dumped a little yeast from the bottle in the glass. Thin white head goes away almost immediately. A little bit of foam, a little lacing. Not a strong aroma. A little bit of citrus. Good, well balanced flavor. Pretty strong malt backbone, some fairly complex hop flavors, some sweetness, and a sharp, bitter, snappy finish. Mouthfeel is substantial - medium, good carbonation. This is a good beer and it hides the 8% very well. pivo (2537), Germany
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 14, 2006 Pale amber color, low fizzy head on the edge of the glass. Sweet cookie dough malt, light hint of cherry, slight woody character towards the end, then a dry tingly spiced finish. Medium body. Not so hoppy, but a solid ale. Good one. yemntftb (106), USA

Nice mix of hops and sweet malts hides the 8% alcohol up until the finish. The finish has hits of alcohol and fruits and is quite nice. One of my favorite or the Mendocino Beers. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 28, 2006 Well, I’ve always wondered what beers make up the lowest of the style percentages. I’m not sure if this one is deserving of that distinction but the numbers don’t lie. The aroma isn’t great, sweet alcohol and other sweet sensations. Poured out dark copper with about .5 inch of head but after 5 minutes there is 0 sign of any bubbles anywhere...just dark colored water...never seen anything like it. Flavor isn’t too bad though. Sweet malts and some hop balance. There is a candy sugar flavor too. An alcohol presence on the finish. As my fourth beer it’s starting to work it’s alcoholic magic so I shall retire.
