Commercial Description:
Eye of the Hawk is an excellent, strong, rich bodied ale that is "Bottle Conditioned" to perfection. "Eye" is coppery reddish-amber in color and its unique taste is the result of a judicious mix of caramel and pale malted barley, balanced with Cluster, Cascade and Saaz hops. This gives the Eye its luxurious flavor, substantial mouth-feel and that slightly dry finish.

Bottle. Poured cloudy light brown with a small white head. Aroma of malt, caramel, some light diacetal. Taste is heavily caramel malt, some light bitterness. Some light fruit as well. Mouth is smooth and body is mild, making this really drinkable. Overall, a decent ale.

Pours a brownish amber with a thin white head. Lots of caramel malt and sweet fruitiness in the nose. Flavor is caramel, good bit of hop bitterness and a fruity finish.

Slight aroma of caramel, pours a clear reddish-amber with a dusting of white head. Flavor is a bit of chewy caramel malts, backed with a layer of bitterness, then followed with a sweet fruity finish. Nice full mouthfeel. Alcohol is well hidden, for the price, a good Strong Ale.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy amber with a medium frothy light tan head that diminishes quickly leaving behind decent lacing along the glass. A lot of carbonation and bubbles. The aroma is a sweet fruity aroma with caramel. Thick mouthfeel with a strong hops with caramel malts in the finish. Hides the alcohol well making it easy to drink. A very good american strong ale from Mendocino.

A really nice example of an ASA. Mendocino has always been a little hit and miss with me, but it seems more miss. This is probably my 2nd favorite beer from them. The aroma seems to be a showcase for the malts, as I got a TON of caramel and toffe but the hops do show up, even under the onslaught of malt. Light pitted fruits, metal/irony and floral. Flavor has some strong fruit flavors, caramel, raw sugar, alcohol and some really light undefined spices. Pretty nice beer actually.
