| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 9, 2009 Slight aroma of caramel, pours a clear reddish-amber with a dusting of white head. Flavor is a bit of chewy caramel malts, backed with a layer of bitterness, then followed with a sweet fruity finish. Nice full mouthfeel. Alcohol is well hidden, for the price, a good Strong Ale. djd07 (753), Houston, Texas, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 6, 2009 Bottle. Pours a cloudy amber with a medium frothy light tan head that diminishes quickly leaving behind decent lacing along the glass. A lot of carbonation and bubbles. The aroma is a sweet fruity aroma with caramel. Thick mouthfeel with a strong hops with caramel malts in the finish. Hides the alcohol well making it easy to drink. A very good american strong ale from Mendocino. GG (1672), NorCal, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 3, 2009 A really nice example of an ASA. Mendocino has always been a little hit and miss with me, but it seems more miss. This is probably my 2nd favorite beer from them. The aroma seems to be a showcase for the malts, as I got a TON of caramel and toffe but the hops do show up, even under the onslaught of malt. Light pitted fruits, metal/irony and floral. Flavor has some strong fruit flavors, caramel, raw sugar, alcohol and some really light undefined spices. Pretty nice beer actually.
