Commercial Description:
Eye of the Hawk is an excellent, strong, rich bodied ale that is "Bottle Conditioned" to perfection. "Eye" is coppery reddish-amber in color and its unique taste is the result of a judicious mix of caramel and pale malted barley, balanced with Cluster, Cascade and Saaz hops. This gives the Eye its luxurious flavor, substantial mouth-feel and that slightly dry finish.

The balance of sweetness and bitterness is good, but the flavor isn’t strong enough to quite mask the alchohol. If I pay 8 bucks for a 6-pack, and the ABV is 8 or less, I would hope the alcohol wouldn’t come through as much.

The aroma has caramel, licorice, malt, and light floral hops. The appearance is copper and amber with a small foamy head. The flavor is both good and bad. There is a decent malt taste but there’s also a slightly acidic and medicinal quality to it that’s not to my liking. It is also very sweet. The aftertaste is bitter. The palate is pretty good. This beer is good but just barely.

Nice blond color, with a thick head that goes away too quickly. The aroma and the flavor are both weak, but there are some nice flavors of malt and marshmallow.

Bottle. Metallic sour malt aroma. Drak copper color with small head. Slightly sweet initially - light berry flavor followed by fairly strong hops and alcohol. Would have liked a stronger flavor but pretty well balanced.

Bottled. Hazy dark amber color with a medium sized off white head. Sweet malty aroma with some tropical fruits and just a hint of hops. Sweet(and somewhat tart) malt flavor with some citrus hops and a big alcoholic finish.

This was one of my local Central Market’s "recommended" beers, and it’s the first real disappointment I’ve had when chosing their picks. Bottles, $7.99. I didn’t realize that it was 8%; that makes for an overly dominant characteristic, both in aroma and finish. I won’t buy it again.

The aroma has some caramel malt and whisps of floral. The bottle pours a reddish brown with a decent tan head. Slight malty taste at first but a moderate bitterness quickly comes to dominate.

bottle - Something just seems off with this beer. Bad bottle? The aroma is mostly of alcohol and not very pleasant. The taste has some malty sweetness up front, then the finish is simply harsh alcohol. I typically love strong ales, but something’s just not right here. I keep taking another drink hoping for the beer to justify itself and that’s not happening. Meh. At least the alcohol content is high enough to be warming.
