Commercial Description:
Eye of the Hawk is an excellent, strong, rich bodied ale that is "Bottle Conditioned" to perfection. "Eye" is coppery reddish-amber in color and its unique taste is the result of a judicious mix of caramel and pale malted barley, balanced with Cluster, Cascade and Saaz hops. This gives the Eye its luxurious flavor, substantial mouth-feel and that slightly dry finish.

Pours orangish amber with a mostly receding thin fluffy tan head. Aroma is butterscotch, flowery resinous hops, and sweet caramel. Taste is rich caramel malt, pine, some oxidation, and a slight note of alcohol. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and slighty sticky, with smooth carbonation. Not a bad strong ale.

Rich molasses and caramel nose. A mid-sized off white head floats peacefully atop this reddish amber brew. Very English in character, this brew is like a light styled barley wine. Sweet and bitter all at once, EOTH is nefver cloying. A fine match for a strongly flavored beef dish.

Pours a brilliant clear amber-red (mighta’ been the sunset) with a medium, short lasting-very little lacing white head. One sip, and I was transported back in time. Reminded me of beers that I stole in my youth. Alchol is very up-front. Rolls over the tongue like I’m gonna’ get lucky. Colder the better.

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow & blankboy -- courtesy of GregClow. Aroma sort of in between a pale and IPA - some tale hops, some harshness (from the alcohol - I didn’t know it was this strong when sampled). Very odd taste - citrus (grapefruit), some bitterness, but also quite harsh. Lingering bitterness. terribly unbalanced. Not very good at all.

Bottle from Trader Joe’s in San Diego - shared with blankboy, HogTownHarry and tupalev. Clear orange-amber with a small head. Aroma is quite sweet, with caramel notes, mildly fruity and spicey. Flavour has a similar character, with a slightly unpleasant harshness. Like blankboy, I felt that felt unblended and unfocussed. Meh.

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow & tupalev -- courtesy of GregClow. Pours a clear copper-orange with a spare white head. Aroma of caramel malt, yeast and fruit. Flavour follows the aroma with some hops added, alcohol was a little harsh and the flavours don’t quite blend well together. It’s O.K. but I wondered while drinking it "what is it it’s trying to be?" as it did not taste like an "American Strong Ale" to me.

Murky medium brown with a thick, creamy tan head that lasts forever. somewhat weak floral aroma of spruce, lemon, and other fruits. Piney, citrusy hops combine with a bready maltiness in the flavor. A solid brew.

Bottle (12oz). Shared with blankboy, GregClow and tupalev - courtesy of GregClow. Poured hazy gold-amber, no head. Aroma was very light but hard to pin down - acetone (?) malt, slightly hoppy, alcohol-steeped fruits. Taste is spicy/fruity malt with alcohol bitterness on the finish - I found it a bit weird. Mouthfeel was slightly sticky, definitely alcoholic - overall a little harsh and unbalanced, but interesting melange of spice/malt/alcohol.
