Commercial Description:
Eye of the Hawk is an excellent, strong, rich bodied ale that is "Bottle Conditioned" to perfection. "Eye" is coppery reddish-amber in color and its unique taste is the result of a judicious mix of caramel and pale malted barley, balanced with Cluster, Cascade and Saaz hops. This gives the Eye its luxurious flavor, substantial mouth-feel and that slightly dry finish.

Pale amber coloured with frothy white head. Nice hoppy, sweet (honey) aroma. very nice hoppy but well balanced taste. Lovely mouthfeel, full bodiedl. Tasty, dry finish. A very drinkable 8%er (well hid alcohol). Excellent.

Quita a good strong ale but a bit more "mainstreamed" than other west coast micros. Like most of Mendocino’s beers, it’s great to have around for casual drinking.

Pours a light butterscotch with a medium, off-white head that dissipates quickly. No lacing. Feels very warm and sweet in the mouth. Tastes of caramel and orange with a malty background. Alcohol is masked by the warmth and sweetness. A weak, twinge of hops for an aftertastes. This was a bit too sweet for me, but went down awfully smooth for an 8% brew. Not bad, but needs more hops for balance. A few of these would have you ferschnockered quickly.

Malty aroma with some molasses, cardboard. Hazy aroma in color. Tastes a little old initially, unbalanced and alcoholic. Strong molasses. Oxidized? Sun struck? No lace. head mostly diminishing. Off-white head. Some cloying qualities. Improves as it warms, however. I should have cleansed my palate before tasting this brew. Some butterscotch notes come through at mid bottle. Toffee. Not bad. Warming.

Pours a dark amber color. Has a sweet, almost belgian ale flavor. The alcohol has a nice finish. It’s ok, I’ve had better.
