Commercial Description:
Eye of the Hawk is an excellent, strong, rich bodied ale that is "Bottle Conditioned" to perfection. "Eye" is coppery reddish-amber in color and its unique taste is the result of a judicious mix of caramel and pale malted barley, balanced with Cluster, Cascade and Saaz hops. This gives the Eye its luxurious flavor, substantial mouth-feel and that slightly dry finish.

From bottle pours golden with copper hue, along with yeast floaties and minimal head, and carbontation typical of an ale.Good hop aroma, with a medium body (like 1% milk). Sweet carmel matl, alcohol warmth and a bit sticky, with a bitter hop finish.

Twenty-two ounce bottle from New Vintage Wine. Poured nicely with a creamy head and hazy copper color. The nose was a bit sweet with brown sugar. Had a sugary sweet flavor with caramel and brown sugar. I was expecting much more.

12 oz bottle picked up at McScrooge’s in Knoxville. Poured a fairly clear copper/orange color with a two finger creamy tan head. Aroma of brown sugar and caramel, with a hint of floral hops. The flavor was malty with a strong caramel base, with a hint of brown sugar. The palate was above average, with a slick, oily mouthfeel, soft carbonation and a medium/full body.

Bottle poured nicely with an orangish-gold color that was slightly hazed. Smell is a little flowery with brown sugar. Ale yeast esters offer a woody smell in the nose when tasting. WOW... the finish on this beer is great. Very smooth and clean. Lots of brown sugar and flowers like marigold and roses in the hops. Well done.

Pours amber gold with a fading off-white head. The aroma is caramelly with floral hoppiness. Tastes malty with the caramelly taste and texture is present. Pretty good.

Bottle pours a golden amber body with an off white head. Sweet caramel and a light floral hop body. Fruity esters with a dry finish. Good brew.

Poured a clear copper color with carbonation bubbles rising in the glass. A creamy tan head that settled to about 1". A nice caramel roasted malt aroma. Initial taste had a bit of sweetness and finished slightly dry with a bit of a hop bite. The full body flavor lingers for awhile. There was light lacing. This was a nice refreshing flavorful beer and at a good price in the 6-7 range for a 6er or 23 for a case as are all Mendocino’s beers in my area .

Hmmm, this is not so great. Aromas and flavors are too malty and grainy without the balance Oh well, wine some and lose some.
