Commercial Description:
A full flavor, fine reddish hued color, and a clean light finish characterize Raptor Red Lager. First produced in July of 2003, Raptor Red is now packaged in 12oz. bottles, six-packs, and kegs. This lager has been produced to commemorate the twentieth anniversary of the brewery, and is named in honor of the Mendocino Brewing Company’s affiliation with birds of prey. Raptor Red Lager is a traditional red lager, brewed with Mendocino’s Lager yeast, 100% malted barley and using classic noble hops for finishing. Raptor Red Lager has a rich refreshing flavor with a smooth light feel and a crisp dry finish.

Eh, it’s okay. I’d take Deschutes’ Cinder Cone Red over this any day. I don’t see the "reddish hued color" at all, but it is unfiltered, which I like. For a Pale Lager this is pretty good, but overall it’s just a beer.

Decent, and like other ratings have said this does tend to have some sugar sweetness in the water. Light cardboard and sawdust aroma. This is bland, but easy to drink.

Apricot in colour with a fleeting white head. No lacing, moderately carbonated. Starts out watery and tangy but leads to a mild hop flavor midway through. Typical, boring, american lager.

Pours dark gold with the aroma of some caramel and hops. Tastes like a cheaper brew with a little bit of hoppiness. Not a whole lot of depth. Nothing offensive, but is certainly not something I would rush out to buy.

Really not full flavored at all. This tastes like your standard american lager and nothing better. Save your money and your time and skip over this one.

Bottle. This was really crap. No better in quality than Tooheys New. Stale, sweet, tinny and just plain awful, what a dissapointing brewery this is.

On tap @ brewhouse ~10miles from brewery. Light body, tastes like a mouthfull of wheat bread dough. Shockingly strong dough flavor for an amber and moreso for such a light-bodied beer. Kind of intriguing. "Mendocino" bitter is mostly wiped out by the yeast, which is a big plus.

(Bottle) Having a light golden hue, this beer is surprisingly pale in color for what Mendocino Brewing mysteriously calls a traditional red lager (say what?), and that sets the tone for what is to follow: a truly mediocre beer that fails to excite the senses; This is basically a standard American microbrewed lager with moderate maltiness, a lightly bitter but balancing hoppiness, and a moderate sweetness that tops off a drinkable and pleasant, but ho-hum beer; The nose is gently sweet like honey with perhaps a touch of malt; Slightly cloudy; Sizeable off-white head has pretty solid retention, though lacing is patchy
