I don’t see the "reddish hued color" at all, but it is unfiltered, which I like. For a Pale Lager this is pretty good, but overall it’s just a beer. harlequinn (2745), Tacoma, Washington, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Aug 15, 2004 Decent, and like other ratings have said this does tend to have some sugar sweetness in the water. Light cardboard and sawdust aroma. This is bland, but easy to drink. Sven (229), Lancaster, California, USA
| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Aug 9, 2004 Apricot in colour with a fleeting white head. No lacing, moderately carbonated. Starts out watery and tangy but leads to a mild hop flavor midway through. Typical, boring, american lager. mjg74 (1997), La Mesa, California, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Aug 9, 2004 Pours dark gold with the aroma of some caramel and hops. Tastes like a cheaper brew with a little bit of hoppiness. Not a whole lot of depth. Nothing offensive, but is certainly not something I would rush out to buy. | 1.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 1/10 | 2/5 | 5/20 | Jul 16, 2004 Really not full flavored at all. This tastes like your standard american lager and nothing better. Save your money and your time and skip over this one. duff (5475), Surrey, Greater London, England
| 0.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 1/10 | 1/5 | 1/10 | 1/5 | 2/20 | Jun 8, 2004 Bottle. This was really crap. No better in quality than Tooheys New. Stale, sweet, tinny and just plain awful, what a dissapointing brewery this is. 0o9i (335), Reno, Nevada, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 10/20 | Jun 7, 2004 On tap @ brewhouse ~10miles from brewery. Light body, tastes like a mouthfull of wheat bread dough. Shockingly strong dough flavor for an amber and moreso for such a light-bodied beer. Kind of intriguing. "Mendocino" bitter is mostly wiped out by the yeast, which is a big plus. DarkElf (2681), La Jolla, California, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jun 4, 2004 (Bottle) Having a light golden hue, this beer is surprisingly pale in color for what Mendocino Brewing mysteriously calls a traditional red lager (say what?), and that sets the tone for what is to follow: a truly mediocre beer that fails to excite the senses; This is basically a standard American microbrewed lager with moderate maltiness, a lightly bitter but balancing hoppiness, and a moderate sweetness that tops off a drinkable and pleasant, but ho-hum beer; The nose is gently sweet like honey with perhaps a touch of malt; Slightly cloudy; Sizeable off-white head has pretty solid retention, though lacing is patchy
