Aromas of pumpernickel, caramel, and a little citrus.
Flavor is nondescript bread crust with a bit of mealiness. Hops are insubstantial in flavor but provide, at least, a noticeable bitterness in the finish.
Mouthfeel is watery and clean. Not a lot of body or flavor, especially for 6% abv. Drinkability isn’t bad but it’s not enticing. Mediocre. kmeves (1080), Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 15, 2008 Pours a nice semi cloudy deep amber color with large frothy off white head that quickly dissipates. The aroma is sweet malt with light hay and dough. The flavor has wonderful balance between the sweet malt and citrus hops which is true to he style. Medium body, thick and chewy texture. Finishes medium and again leaning toward the malt. jbuzz (661), South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA

Pours a murky muddy brown with very light brown edges and a darker amber center underneath a fizzy foamy off white head. Aroma of watery caramel, celery, vegtables, perhaps some cold day old white bread toast as well. Light bodied with light carbonation and a slightly fizzy mouthfeel. Flavor of weak white toast, watered down caramel, sour vegtables and amber malts. Wow when I saw the 2008 New York Yankees I thought I saw some underachievers and then I met a little beer called Mendocino Red Tail Ale and I was truly impressed what an underachiever actually is. presario (2996), Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Light hop scent, some malt notes and light fruitiness. Nice hops. None of the vanilla flavour I get in so many "ambers". Enjoyable fruitiness to go with the hops.
