Commercial Description:
Red Tail Ale - The Legend is our flagship brand. It is brewed in the traditional "old world" manner, using premium two-row malted barley, hops and our own special proprietary yeast strain. It is an amber ale with a rich complex refreshing flavor and a crisp dry finish. Red Tail Ale is "Bottle Conditioned." Like good wine, Red Tail Ale is a perfect complement to fine dining.

Copper, opaque color, 1/2 inch light tan head. Aroma of bland malt and a little yeast. Malty flavor, accented by caramel and medium flavor hoppiness. Heavy, thick body. Finish is heavy and only slightly dry.

I used to really like Mendocino brews but they seem to have gone downhill. Nothing especially wrong with this, but nothing much too it either.

Pours light amber color, not very strong aroma, average carbonation, medium bitterness, good amount of hops. An overall average tasting beer.

From bottle... poured clear amber with little head. Musty, grassy aroma. Enjoyable, hoppy flavor with slight grapefruit tang. Slight bite and crisp, dry finish. I’d love this one when the weather is nice. This one overachieved, and I’ll get it again (had it as part of a $28 variety case). Good value.

Hazy amber body, no head. Aroma is almost nonexistent. Flavor is weak, with some sweet maltiness and a faint hop presence. Finishes tangy and sweet. Pretty lame.

Sampled during Cellar’s Wednesday beer tasting evening. Pours a clear light amber brew with a fast dissolving off-white head that leaves behind a fine film and white ring. Aroma of light caramel malt, some grassy and vegetable hop character, a touch of grapefruit and some apple skin. Taste is medium bodied, some carbonation with a good balance of caramel malt, grassy hops and a touch of apple. Finish is semi-dry with some hop character in the aftertaste that quickly disappears.

[bottle] One of the better amber ales I’ve had. Hops on the aroma and a long lasting hop bitterness on the finish. Poured a clear, lighter red with a quickly disappearing off-white head.
