Pour was a sticky dark orange with a one finger white head. Aroma was caramel with some stale hops and must. Taste was sticky and wet...definately some caramel in there and the hops hit the back of the throat after the swallow to bitter the tongue in the end. Not too bad and easily drinkable. The malty part has a chocolate-like sweetness which makes this one stand out more than the other Mendocino beers but that chalk taste keeps it in the same ballpark. badlizard (2394), Berkeley, California, USA

Taste of caramel, some hops evident, and a slight bitterness to the finish. metsbcd (82), Connecticut, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 19, 2007 Pretty good beer. Pours a medium copper, good body. Hoppy with some bitterness, and decent flavor. IslandHaole (1035), Onna-Son, Okinawa-Ken, Japan
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 16, 2007 One of the many beers I had plenty of on my trip through CA in August (just found my notebook) Dark Amber color with a medium sized off-white head. Sweet malty scent. Rather mild sweetness with a buttery quality, light floral hops. OK. hophead75 (1964), Boonton, New Jersey, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Oct 15, 2007 12 oz bottle. Lightly hazy amber in color. Aroma: caramel, light floral hops, malt seems a bit cardboardy. Taste is lightly fruity, with some stale malt and floral hops. Can’t get myself to type more... | 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Oct 14, 2007 Bottle. Pours a slighly brown colored amber with a nice one finger, fluffy, tan head. Aromas are of sweet malt with some fruity hops, but rather uninspiring. Flavor is OK, but about the same as the aroma. Things start off with a nice caramel malt presence, and then transition to a fruit medley that reminds me of pears. Following this, the aftertaste strikes and it is chalky and somewhat disagreeable... a bit of a wet and rotting vegetation/cardboard note that stuck me wrong. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 14, 2007 12 oz. bottle. Just from sniffing the bottle I can tell it’s an amber, so that’s a good start. Pours dark copper with a spongy head on top leaving a few bubbles on the glass. Taste is solid crystal malts with some caramel, but also slightly dry. Definitely American hops, but not too much, just some solid, grassy bitterness. What can I say, I liked it.
