Malt, fruit and caramel flavors with some nutty and piney hints. This brewery really has a problem with covering up the alcohol, I can definitely taste it. Not as bad as eye of the hawk, but the flavor isnt as good. ilikestuff (222), Fort Worth, Texas, USA

Little white head that dissapates quickly. Nice sweet malty aroma and a very clean crisp taste. A very enjoyable brew that would go nice on a hot day. Skip (206), Indiana, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 21, 2006 Caramel aroma, some hops. An oxymoron, this ale is both simple and complex. The aftertaste is not sweet, but does have some fruit tones. Decent head retention. I tasted this brew originally at the Hopvine Saloon, its home brewpub, where, naturally, it was superior to other tastings. In bottles, it is more restrained, and those bottles from contract brewers can be of entirely different character. scanman (146), Santa Cruz, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 13, 2006 A crisp ale with complex aromas and flavors. Has an almost wine-like aftertaste with berries, stones and nut flavors. I really like the piney hop flavor that moves to the background to enjoy a really refreshing medium bodied ale. ryan (1781), Beltsville, Maryland, USA

Aroma and flavour of roasty malt and grapefruity hops. Medium sweet with clean mouthfeel and obvious aromatic, roasty crystal malt character. Aromatic peachy finish with medium bitterness. Simplistic and ultra-American, but pretty good. 505 (271), Echo Park, California, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 29, 2006 Nice aroma, but simple, caramel with some hops/nuttiness. Pour is amber, no head. Taste is nice, kind of dry though, hits bitter, but rather simple. A bit overcarbonated. Overall, not good, not bad. The mendocinos I’ve tried have never been bad, but never all that strong in flavor. mbeem (104), New Hope, Alabama, USA
