Aroma is very light with hints of sweet malts, some hops and some vegetables. Taste begins with a sweet and malty flavor then goes to a malty and smooth flavor in the middle and a finish that’s sweet, malty, crisp and clean. The aftertaste is crisp with hints of malt and some hops. Watery but otherwise not too bad. mrchug645 (71), alb, New Mexico, USA

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Feb 20, 2006 Updated: Oct 24, 2007bottle - thin head, amber color, light malty aroma with a bit of hops. The taste is fairly bland though the balance is alright. Once again I detected hints of the odd tasting, abrasive finish that ruined the other two Mendocino beers I’ve had for me. At least the unpleasantness is mild in this one, hence the somewhat higher rating. I don’t know if it’s the variety of hops they use that I don’t like or what...
Rerate Oct ’07 - The latest bottle did not have the bothersome off taste that I complained about in my first rating. It’s a decent, fairly sweet amber. I’ll bump up my rating a bit. alaskanwarren (286), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Feb 17, 2006 Bottle from my buddy who was in CA for a few weeks. Pours orange-ish amber. Aroma is slightly hopy, but more grainy/malty. Flavor is similar, decent amount of hops and pretty meaty on the malt side. Hints of toastiness. It was much bigger body than I expected. This is no fat tire. I’d enjoy one again though, I thought it was pretty good, but wont go down in the halls of greatness as far as my mind is considered. tronraner (1918), Seymour, Tennessee, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 8, 2006 Bottle. Pours a hazy orange-gold with tight off-white head. Burnt sugar and yeast dominate the aroma, with some hints of zest and just a wisp of toast. The flavor also has lots of burnt sugar, along with raw barley, and a very bold, biting hoppy bitterness without any floral or fruit notes. The finish is very dry. Not as complex as the commercial description boasts, but not too bad. dp (512), uniontown, Ohio, USA
