Commercial Description:
Lighter in body than our Red Tail Ale, Red Tail Lager is fermented at low temperatures using our traditional lager yeast. “It took 21 years to make a lager worthy of the Red Tail name. Red Tail Lager has a rich refreshing flavor with a smooth light feel and a clean and crisp sweet finish.”

Date introduced: April 2005. Description: Medium body, red hued color, snow white head, lightly hopped, rich refreshing flavor, clean and crisp sweet finish.

12oz bottle. Orange color. white head. Citrus aroma. hints of bread. Some lemon zest. Flavor is a thin malt. followed by a sharp bitterness. Very light, thin bodied. not much going on.

Dark copper orange, off white head. Aroma is toasted caramel, grainy. Taste is the same, toasted malt, but overall husky and grainy.

Bottled. Poured hazy medium amber with a short-lived cap of whitish head. The aroma picked up toasted grains, caramel, and honey with dry spices and floral accents.. malty overall and pleasant enough. The flavor found light fruits in addition to honey and caramel at the core.. tacky malts with mild floral bitterness on the edges.. a bit tangy on the finish. Lighter-bodied with low-ish carbonation on the palate.. decent balance, but the tacky malts on the back kept it from being refreshing. OK stuff.

A bit of soy on the aroma, but a very nice and refreshing cherry quality on the flavor. Not the best, but a very nice session beer. A very nice LAGER to boot!

Appearance: Pours an ever so slightly hazed, amber body with a smallish, though frothy, white head. Smell: Vague, mild nose of sweet-scented grains with an equally indistinct hint of fruit. Well, gee, I was hoping for a bit more here. Hopefully the taste will promptly deliver me to Flavor Town! Taste: Lightly toasty, lightly bready, lightly grainy malts with, yes, a light sweetness. Then, in comes a watery wash of spring water. Touch of fruit. Faintly citrusy, spicy hops with just a touch of bitterness. The finish is dry and clean but also empty and abrupt. Mouthfeel: Light-bodied. Medium carbonation. Drinkability: What is this, Amateur Night?! I’m left quietly muttering encouraging comments to try and coax some (any!) flavor out of this thing. Sadly, a sip of Red Tail Lager doesn’t really entice you take another, unless it’s just the abject curiosity to see if it’ll ever somehow deliver in the taste department, which, again sadly, it does not.

Looks decent: a hazy light brown color, very effervescent with an off-white head. Aroma is weakly malty, and a tad sweet. Flavor is watery, a hint of slightly roasted malt. Water mouthfeel. Pretty boring lager!
