Good, sweet caramel aroma, mature, hoppy. Full bodied, rich malt flavor, sweet caramel and toffee too, some vanilla, and with the necessary bitterness for a Barleywine. A classic style excellent Barleywine. Floback (337), Naples, Florida, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 2, 2007 Pours a tiny centimeter of tan head that hastens to vanish. Dark maroon/amber color. Nose is caramel, oak, a hint of vanilla. Same flavors as the aroma with the addition of dark fruits, leather, and a bit more hops in the forefront. Heavily malted backbone. Thick and velvety mouthfeel typical for the style. Thin/medium carbonation and full-bodied. Very drinkable; the ABV pleasantly warms the throat without overwhelming the flavor. This beer is certainly underrated. aspidites (1274), manteca, California, USA
