sweet toffee, caramel, candy, and hop aroma. brown red color with no head. a hoppy barley wine. flavor isn’t as impressive as the aroma. the malts aren’t big enough. a crisp hop finish.

2004 bottle -- Yellowish head (though minimal) with a ruby body. Mollassas aroma combined with a dark candy taste leaves for a nice barley wine that his highly drinkable.

Fully diminishing light-brown head. Dark amber color. Aroma of malts and caramel and some sweet fruit. Very noticable caramel flavor, more fruit, .and some toffee hints. Original rating: 6/3/8/4/16

Nice amber color. Quickly dissipating tan head. Malty, caramel aroma. Tastes of toffee, caramel and hops. Good beer, but left a little disappointed.

Poured from bottle into a shaker glass. Had a fully diminishing tan head and a dark reddish-brown color. Aroma produced sweet vinuous notes and a little caramel. Full bodied and complex, I thought that it was a little too sweet.

Pours a dark garnett color with a thin off-white head of small bubbles. Vinous barley malt aroma. Very nice. Lots of hop bitterness and caramel/toffee in the taste with a Switzer-Sweet Cigar-like aftertaste on the tongue. Kind of a smoked taste remains with the hoppy bitterness even after the "after" taste. Alcohol is evident, but in no way dominant. An exceptional effort.

Clear copper, beighe head. Malty, caramel nose with little hop aroma evident, somewhat of a surprise. Resinous mouthfeel and a thick toffee/caramel flavor that isn’t overly sweet. Some subtle hop flavor, but again less that I expect with a barleywine. Alcohol notable in the background. Definitely on the sweeter side for a barley wine, but nonetheless enjoyable.

22 oz bottle, purchased between 6 months and a year ago. Really, I was quite surprised to see this brewery put out a barley wine, not very impressed with them overall, so I am both happy for them and apprehensive. Fairly thick, smooth taupe head decaying slowly to form a nice lasting cover over the translucent auburn surface...lots of thick caramel malt in the nose, surprisingly low on herbal hop bitterness though it can be detected, hints of peaches and toasted almonds also, quite lovely...the body is quite hoppy, resinous, lightly woody and whiskeyish with some nice vanilla along with bitter almonds...smooth, rather sugary/syrupy body is a bit much but not really cloying...smoky/tarry cigarette characteristics emerge later, but in sufficiently light doses as to remain attractive rather than disgusting. Coming from this brewery, this is just astonishingly good, and proves (as if I needed it) that you can’t always judge a beer by its label, or its brewer.
