Honey, cedar and yellow raisins on the nose. Full body with nice malt and a quite hoppy finish leaving the mouth slightly tannic with the hint of bitterness. Mouth has copper, pears, and oak notes. Aroma was a mixture of honey, malt, and orange. Tasted the same as the aroma with just a twinge of pleasant hoppiness. Cleared the palate EXTREMELY nicely. Great stuff. blank (998), Washington, Washington DC, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 28, 2005 Bottle. Nice example of an English style barleywine. Sweet, slight hop spice. Honey and spice really come through and overwhelms. Sticky palate. Dorwart (1829), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 13, 2005 Good sized off-white head. Dense and creamy. Settles slowly. Hoppy aroma with plenty of malts, and roastyness. Bit of wet spruce and sweet caramel also. Color is a bright mahagony red. Full bodied and sweet flavor. Plenty of hops and a big alcohol kick. Warms as it goes down. Big malts and some more piney hops. Finsih is thick and syrupy with more alcohol. A decent and powerful barleywine. Lacking a little in refinement but big in raw flavor and alcohol. jmuhops (663), Winchester, Virginia, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 8, 2005 Pours a lovely amber-red with a larger-than-expected ecru head and nice lacing. Big malty aroma with raisiny notes and hints of gaminess and oak. A tad floral, as well. Flavor is all malt from the beginning to the swallow. Only in the aftertaste do the hops come through, and then in the form of a drying bitterness that is quite subdued, but pleasant. Alcohol is not overpowering. Not bad, if a bit watery for the style.
